Prototyping a nice hi end budget no frills ported shallow sub box that fits behind either seat in the cubby without any modifications or part bin removals.

The mounting depth is roughly 4” and can fit various 10” shallow subs as well as optional space for a midrange 3.5 for anyone look for that fat mono sound in the back.

What’s cool about adding a 3.5 in mono to a sub is that you can play with various nulling issues and comb filter issues in small rooms like a truck. What is also cool these will be all USA made (in Commie California) and not sprayed with chem trail poisons and funny sweatshop smells.

    Any interest from people here?

CNC laser cut, mdf and/or 1/2” birch, glued and reinforced countersunk joints. Dynamatish 150mil internally with acoustic Roxul spun mineral wool and 3” side port, rubber decouplers, rubber feet, metra wiring plate, clear custom spesker grill. Lights???? Different finishes and veneers, acrylic, etc.

Will be able to crank these out as relatively affordable kits if worthwhile and can also customize cutout diameter and end caps.

More photos of finished product coming this week. Can’t wait to install my Focal Flax which will give a rig that will smoke pretty much anything under 1k.

No reason to pay 700 for a sub box!

waiting on the speaker from crutchfield and will post finish pics this week. i have a CAD file very easy to modify for custom sizes within reason.

...and will come up with an awesome price that moreorless covers materials, laser fee, and a tiny margin for time.

I wanna see the flax setup when you get it done. Crutchfield had the kicker key 200.4 on sale for $212, focal PS165f for $300 and focal PC165f for $250 on close out last Christmas. I'm still kicking myself for not jumping on that deal. :(:annoyed:

I got a kicker 800.5 refurbed for 275 from hifi sound connection. Looks and works brand new. Great amp so far other than the remote wire issue, it kept turning off so I finally ran it to the cigarette outlet fuse and everything is 100%. Using focal es165ks components picked off member here with lots of acoustic treatment and each speaker going to own channel instead of Focal crossovers. Gives a ton of flexibility. Was able to roughly tune with a studio measurement mic and sine wave sweep software...I had some definite buildup around 250 and then at 3k, probably right were the crossovers would start their roll offs. Also interesting was running lower gain into the amp and using makeup from the amp is wayyyyy better than driving the input via test signal calibration. The amp is super quiet :) This is gonna sound killer with the sub, trying to get that elusive flat curve we will see. Might sandbag all around it for mass keep the bass as tight as realistically possible.

I don’t have the time, tools or the skill— so I snagged a stealth box with an 8” w3. Nice work OP. Looks great. I bet you can fit a super deep magnet in there.

you have some fancy tools there!

I know it's all subjective but how does your current setup sound? Stock head unit powering dash/door speaker and JL 10" stealthbox w/amp? Good enough without front stage amp? Of course everyone would want more, lol, but...

ps I'm not highjacking the thread but just wanted to catch "meats" eyes and get his opinion of his setup that I'd be interested in

Got the focal flax 10” sub today. My CC now has approximately 50 dollars available at the moment.

Beautiful speaker, extremely well made and nice earth tone color. 3.5” depth should fit in the build without issue. Waiting on the new cut pieces tomorrow and will show finished product hopefully tomorrow night. Will be stuffing ultratouch recycled acoustic denim and closed cell Noico 150mil throughout. The inner cab volume is roughly 14L so basically perfect for a ported 10”. If room allows we might be able to mount the speaker on the inside face so you have that 1/2” clearance for a flush mount grill protector etc and keep that sexy burnt laser edge.

    Last post until finished thanks.

You gonna have a sweet setup with those K2s and this hitting the low notes. I’ve got a flax evo 8(I know yours is a 10”)and loved it when I was using it. More precise and accurate than my JL 8w3v3 was. Flax and up from Focal is very hard to beat and the best imo. If I hadn’t decided to go with a 12” I’d went with a Flax 10 over the JL 12tw3. Glad to see you’re enjoying the K2s! Those things are badass
