Hello I'm new to this forum but don't know where else to turn. I replaced the rack on our 07 Tacoma and went thru the process of bleeding the fluid (detaching the return line put into a bucket and raised the truck so I could turn the wheels easily) On the first turn of the wheel I got a little fluid out, after going back and forth nothing else came out of the hose and the reservoir level didn't go down like I expected. I did this countless times so I decided to start the truck and let the pump do the work. A little fluid came out of the reservoir so I added more, the power steering never assisted the turn of the wheel or even attempted to. I have a thermal meter and was getting very hot readings on the pump. I shut it down. It seems that something is preventing the fluid from circulating in the system. I'm not sure if the new rack we bought is DOA or what is going on. I also replaced the pump thinking is wasn't pushing fluid like it should since the truck was driven without fluid in the system for 20 to 30 miles. Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to TW! What is the rack brand and where did you buy it from?

We pulled the Rack out and did an inspection. It appears the high pressure hole is different from the OE rack I still have. In the OE rack there is some kind of spring loaded valve in there that the new rack does not have. In fact the new rack doesn't appear down in the hole to have a place for fluid to move thru. I'm taking it back and going to order a different rack from somewhere else. Any suggestions as to what rack/manufacturer to get a decent one from?

    Unless you go NEW OEM?
Maybe go OEM Remanufactured that way you know all the ports are there?
Hopefully I won’t have to replace mine anytime soon! I’ve heard it is a big job on 4WD.

RockAuto has quite a few to choose from

Hope you get it it back up and running soon.

I put an A1 Cardone rack in my ‘07 4x4 back in February. No issues, bled easily with front wheels in the air and motor switched off. Just turned the wheel back and forth until fluid level stayed the same, fired it up and been good ever since.

Edit- got the rack from RockAuto, and replaced the bushings with ES Poly while I had it all apart.

Received the new rack (Cardone) and also ordered a power steering pump since the 1st new rack wasn't allowing fluid in and destroyed the pump. Still had trouble flushing/bleeding the manual method. So we pressurized the reservoir with fluid in it about 10 psi and force fed fluid into the system having to refill 3 to 4 times until it came out the return then buttoned it up. Then keeping an eye on the level until it was just right. It's all fixed now, thanks for all suggestions and help.
