After a below freezing night a few weeks ago I started my truck and it made the busted PS pump noise for a few seconds then went away, it steered normal so I figure it was just something needed warming up. Over the next few days it got louder and lasted longer but my PS was still working just fine. The last day driving around I would just loose PS when turning randomly and then by the time I got home I didnt have any PS at all and the noise was going constantly.

I replaced the pump while doing some other suspension work and when I started the truck back up It still made the same noise but it did go away after a minute. I went full lock to full lock on the steering wheel WITHOUT the front wheels on the truck and it was just spilling fluid out of the top of the pump. I put the wheels back on and tried to turn the steering wheel but lo-and-behold I still had no power steering and the noise was slowly coming back.

The pump I got was the Ultra Power from RockAuto (I took the old pump apart too and it looked fine)

When you replaced the pump did you replace the fluid reservoir or cleaned the mesh filter? This is the most common issue with PS - clogged mesh filter at the bottom of the fluid reservoir.

I used the same reservoir from the old pump, how would I get to that mesh filter?

Cleaned out the filter/mesh and it was pretty gunked up but is also torn pretty good on one side (Ill have to order another one) so fluid was getting through, when I put everything back together and started the truck I had PS for about two minutes then it went out again. The noise was still there even when I first started it up :( it was also gushing fluid out of the top of the reservoir when I was turning the steering wheel lock to lock.

My guess is the noise is from the pump not being able to push the fluid out? Maybe a block in the lines? Maybe a bad steering rack? Maybe its maybelline?

How quickly do you need this fixed? You can check to see if the lines are clogged if you take them off the truck and blow some compressed air through them or flush them with water (I don't know if pure water is bad for them or if it would be a problem with the steering fluid if any water is still in them when you put them back in to be honest). Here's a good video if it helps to just see the parts and how they connect. How does the steering feel w/o power steering? Anything not moving smoothly in the rack and pinion?
