New MAF, should I pull a fuse to reset?

Last year I replaced my upstream 02 sensor. Some advice here indicated I should pull a fuse to help reset things and maybe get the better MPG I was looking for. Is the same recommended when replacing the MAF? If so, which do I pull?

    Thanks,

Pull a battery cable for a minute.

Well, I just replaced the battery same day, after I did the MAF. IS that enough time or should it be longer? I pulled the old out and installed the new, was probably off the connections for 5 minutes.

Your computer should be relearning the fuel trims. It takes a bit depending on driving mileage but you should be good if you drove less than 50 miles.

The amount of time you had the battery cable unplugged is good.
Now it will take time for the ECU to learn what's going on.

Simply put, the ECU is in rehab. Once it acquires what it needs, typically 50 miles of driving for my truck, all is good.

    Question:
Why did you need to replace the MAF?

I didn't NEED to replace it but I got a good deal on Amazon. I've been chasing some MPGs after letting a bad upstream O2 sit for like a year. I went from 280/tank to 220. After replacing the 02, I saw a little bit of increase but maybe 20 miles per tank. I'm also in the process of replacing things when I have the spare time, most of the truck is still original. I'm starting to drive my truck more and while I have low mileage (75k) it can sit from time to time. It's more piece of mind but also looking for a little more fuel efficiency. I did the MAF and fuel filter because I figured it was time, they're 12 or 13 years old and my gas cap after throwing a code just before Christmas. Of course, I'm not expecting any more fuel efficiency from the new gas cap. :)

Between the time I threw the code on the 02 and when I fixed it, I also got BF A/T KOs, so I've accepted they may knock a little bit of MPGs off.

Ive run more than 50 miles since replacing. I've probably burned through a tank.

    OK.
What size tires did you go with? If larger, a possible gearing change could get you back in the ball park.

Have you replaced the fuel filter?

If it were mine, I'd re-install the original MAF for comparison, then make a call as to whether I'd start throwing parts at it. I've read that the only replacement MAF should be an OEM item. I can't vouch for that as I still have my original.

I am the original owner and my '03 and I run the original MAF with no problems.

    Good luck.

Did you originally have 265-70-16's before these tires?

I'm puzzled how you lost 60 mpg per tank. Any mods to speak of, ie: added weight?

My truck advertised as 23 hwy, 18 city. I've beat 20mpg twice. The rest of the time, mpg's changed through the years as my truck has gained weight.

Just for giggles, I'd still put in the original MAF and see if there is a difference, you've nothing to lose.

Here's a thought: Every 3k miles, I run a bottle of STP fuel injector cleaner through... I've done it for years so I can't say if it helps or not but my truck runs like a top, always has. Give that a shot, it's cheap.

Good luck man... I wish I could help you.

Just to clarify, after my 02 sensor went tits up, I also got bigger tires. I drove on the bad 02 for over a year and I suspect caused some other problems in doing so. I saw some increase from the replacement 02 and I'm hopeful with the new MAF but as it stands right now, replacing with the old MAF won't tell me much until I get a few more tanks on the new MAF.

No extra weight and no mods, the truck is bone stock other than the tires.

The ECU has had time to go through it's cycle.

I would still install the OEM MAF.

With mass produced electronics today, you never know. If what you purchased from E-bay is a knockoff, possibly, there is your problem.

Regardless... try the OEM... minutes to change and possibly better.

I replaced my OEM TPS with an OEM unit from Auto Zone. Things didn't seem better after the change. I put the OEM part back, all was normal.

That said, the ECU needs time to think about rehab'ing itself. If you need an extra TPS, I'll hook you up!

I think the '03-04 TPS is different. remember ours got the newer ETCS throttle body :(

I have an 04 Tacoma DCSB and I replaced my MAF cause it had a crack in the glass element. I bought the same Denso MAF but I wasn't aware you had to reset or take the battery cable off. Do I need to do that still? I just took the old one out and put the new one in and it has been running fine ever since. A little less than a year ago is when I replaced it

even if you don't reset it, it adjusts itself after around 100 miles or several starts and stops so your good

that might have been good, thing is there is residual power still in the ECM even after the battery is disconnected and it takes a few minutes for this power to dissipate so it loses its preset air fuel mixture setting memory.

a minute is no where near enough, but anytime you do anything to the trucks system its best to pull the EFI relay in the fuse box under the hood and wait 15 minutes before plugging it back in. this resets the ECM and it then "searches" for the best and most fuel efficient fuel air ratio for the truck. this can cause it to run a little rough the first few minutes until it adjusts. it will do this adjustment on its own after a hundred miles or so so you don't "have to" reset it but if you just make short trips near home then its better to manually reset it so it runs better sooner.

a;lso if you pull the EFI relay you don't lose your radio station presets and clock time
