I was having trouble finding information about the siping on the new Geolandar A/T4, apart that it's 3D, so I emailed Yokohama asking about whether the siping was full depth, here's the response:

"We cannot give full details on the tire construction, most of this type of information is proprietary to tire development.

We can say, the A/T4 has a variety of sipping depths. The sipping will wear out as tread wears, not all sipes have the same depth therefore some will wear out at different rates than others."

So in short, no it is not full depth. We can't infer much more than that the tire siping isn't the same depth and that at least some of it is not full depth. They didn't say when the siping wears out, some could wear out in 10k miles and the rest at 20k miles and what they said would be true. Or it could also wear out at 95 and 100% tread life too.

This non-commitment to give more details on something you'll be able to observe as the tire wears out makes me concerned. I'm not claiming it goes away at a certain depth to be clear, it could go away at 99 and 100% for all I know.

I thought you guys would like to know this information.

So, there is no uniformity to how they make a tire? lol. Go deep on that siping today boys, on Friday we'll cut some corners and go shallow.

The tire siping is part of the tire mold, every tire will have consistent siping of inconsistent depth

If it helps, they are fantastic in rain and snow. I’ve put about 10K miles on my set so far.
