Hi, just bought new Falken Wildpeaks - 265/70R17 for my 2016 Tacoma TRD sport. Tire says max is 51 psi. My previous tires had a max of 44 psi. What should I run safely?

Max PSI is for load limits of the tire. More PSI means you're loading more. These trucks aren't really heavy and therefore will likely not want to run Max unless you like a rough ride or you're towing / hauling something really heavy.

Your vehicle in the door sill drivers side has the recommended tire pressures for your vehicle. The tire just says a max, the vehicle's manual defines the PSI to run on that vehicle.

Mine is 29 front 29 rear, but I tend to run 32 - 33 front/rear to get a bit better MPG and a little less spongy of a ride. I bumped it to 35 PSI front/rear when I loaded my truck up for camping last week, and dropped it back to 32 when I got home.

    Pressures listed are cold.

    Also, nice tires :)

As mentioned, start with what's recommended per your door sticker. From there see what you prefer. I also like to run a little more pressure, in the 33-35 range but that will give a bit more harshness to bumps.

I am running 34psi all around in mine( Falken Wildpeak AT3w).Could probably drop to 30 or 32 for a softer ride, but the wear has been even and gentle so I am pleased

Awesome, thanks guys! I checked this morning after driving around a bit and it was 35-36 all around. This is my first time with off road tires (after running the stock ones since I bought it in March) and so I wanted to be sure I was getting the most out of them and also being safe.

Here she is! sorry for the low-quality picture

i just ordered these tires as well, got them for $450 from discount tire direct via ebay with some coupons they had. i was going to get Toyo AT2's but for a couple hundred less i figured id try these.

for those that have these already how have they been?

So far so good. I have had them since spring. The traction is excellent. Better than my Toyo AT2 and BFG ATKO had. We shall see how they do this winter.

They are also wearing evenly which pleases me.

I have the P rated, but am not one to go looking for rocks to drive over. I would imagine the sidewalls to be much too deficient for recreational crawling.

Off roading for me is dirt/mud trails that have random boulders as well as gravel roads. Basically de-commissioned logging roads and trails that access remote lakes.

This is going to sound dumb, but how can you tell from the tire specs on the tire if they are LT or Non-LT?

And feel free to keep asking questions, this is how best to learn about your truck, and lots of good info on here and people who will share.

There will be either a P or an LT before the size which is printed onto the tire

    Not always...
    P-metric will have a 'P'.
    ISO-metric will have no prefix.

I run 32/32, with 265/75/16. Now that it's cooling off (only 95 today), I'll have to air them up a bit. I think they were at 29 cold this morning, and are starting to be a bit bouncy.

Okay. I have the P rated tire. The tire I am running reads P285 70R17 on the sidewall.

I have the 265/70R17 115T. There is no P or LT from what I can see.

Is that odd? Just trying to figure out whether this is being considered an LT or P.
