So how difficult are CVs? Because I think I finally figured out my sound. It doesn't click while driving but does a creaky sound with slow turning. Got under it today and shook both CVs, one clicks a bit thebither seemed OK. Approaching 100k so might as well do both? Also just buy direct from dealer or any other recommendations?

Not hard at all, the easiest way to get them out is to disconnect the LCA from the spindle with the 2 large bolts by the lower ball joint, and then moving the spindle out of the way to remove the CV axle. When I bought a CV axle to replace one of mine with a split boot, I bought a used OEM axle from ebay, from a much newer truck (from a 2020 I believe).

Edit: @AllTacosFloat makes a great point, while the CV axle is removed, it is a great time to replace the seal on the spindle, and to make sure the new CV axle has a good seal as well.

Usually CV's click on the turns when they are bad. Are the boots torn/ leaking grease?

How bad are they? Not terrible, like 1/2 day to do both. If i was doing them as preventative maintenance have new seals ready and change the front diff fluid. Might as well do the Lexus fill and drain plugs too.

This would be my 1st choice, then oem,

Boots are not torn, not leaking. I wonder if the issue is the cap that wasn't sealed behind the wheel. Dealer messed that up like 50k miles ago. I should have replaced it. Really not that bad. Don't hear it most the time. Entering and exiting parking spots mostly.

My friends blow CVs all the time - if you get them from vatozone they'll warranty them after they're smoked. Probably not really something of concern for you but one guy was blowing them like candy pretty much once a month on his 4runner

My inner boots are torn, not making noise though. I'd like to do those if I don't get to them before hand. I already have the parts

See here's the thing. My stock suspension and tires kind of limit me to the fact that "Hey you gotta drive this thing home". I've seen what you did without that, on 33s. I can't WAIT to see what you'll do now with that and 35s

Probably. There's a 4runner and an xterra that blow them constantly (I think the 4R was sold off), OEM or aftermarket, so I guess they figured if you're going to be blowing them because of the angles anyway, might as well get the warranty ones.
