It was noted that there is a TSB out for all of us. I will dig into it later.

    Good times.

Toyota hears all of the new 4th gen owners hooting and hollering about how incredibly better the drive experience is compared to their 3rd gen. Just as the sentiment takes hold and 3rd gen owners decide to trade up, they pull the ol' switcheroo and update the 3rd gen ECU tune to be completely amazing. Used 3rd gen sales then increase dramatically, and Toyota rakes in sales hand-over-fist on sales of both generations.

Just a fun theory, maybe a pinch of wishful thinking.

It's a very minor update. When the files' raw code is compared to the "old" ones, the actual engine/transmission calibration data is the same.

It's for block heater usage, there is zero reason to update to this new calibration.

Some engines trigger an engine warning code due to temperature delta between ambient and engine coolant due to block heater usage in the deep cold.

I live in a cold region and this code has never come up. Very few will need this update.

Damn it ! I was hoping toyota had finally come out with an awesome calibration that made our trucks drive like a 5.7 tundra and stop burning the occasional valve, oh well , back to 3g life .

I'm wondering how Toyota benefits from a used car sale by a dealer?

Wait if there’s a possible 04A63 then that means there’s an 04A62? How does 04A61 and 04A62 calibrations differ? Would be awesome if it is literally ANY improvement…

Kinda funny that such a rare issue would prompt a TSB and new cal, meanwhile various actual driveability complaints people have had for years cannot be fixed. My truck takes off in 2nd after a stop if I brake too hard for Christ sake lol

Not every calibration is released. I have not even seen this last yet. Just waiting.
