    • The standard engines will be a base 2.5L I-4 (193 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque - 90% is available at a low start rpm of just 2,000) and a 3.6L V6 (302 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque)
    • Both engines matched with a six-speed automatic transmission.
    • The V6 with the tow package will pull 3,039kg (6,700 lb)

Too early to tell, it is a GM. Hopefully Toyota responds with something out of the box but I'm not counting on it. Probably a refreshed grill plate for 2015...

Would be interesting to see the fuel economy of the diesel. According to the Australia Toyota site the Hilux Double Cab diesel gets 8.1 l/100km (29 mpg) with 253 lb-ft of torque

+1, looking forward to checking it out. Think it's at the LA auto show, nice to see someone is not neglecting the mid size diesel truck market

Good looking truck, too bad it's being built by Government Motors. Hopefully, just maybe, this will get Toyota off dead center and FORCE them to fix all the issues on the Gen 2 Tacoma. Like the %$$#@&%^# clicking %$@$%@ annoying noise from the fan motor, the %$@$# rattling passenger side air bag in the dash, side mirrors that $#@% freeze over in the winter, overhead console that shorts out in the heat, and the front wheel bearings that %$@$^ fail at 100k miles. Oh, and they need to upgrade the engine to something with more performance and mileage. A Nissan Exterra will walk all over a Toyota Tacoma in a drag race. Bull hockey! I want power and economy. A hemi Dodge Ram gets better mileage going down the highway.

These issues are not what I expect from Toyota. I expect a superior vehicle from Toyota.

This better wake up Toyota or I honestly will be considering the Colorado as my next truck. I want a truck that is solid and honestly Chevy is really stepping up to meet the demands of the market and they actually are offering decent engines and options.

I am far from a GM fan, however I must say this is a nice looking vehicle. The one thing that deters me from wanting one of these is the bed size. I'm not sure if they will offer the longer bed with the 4 door cab but in all the picks it's just too short...

Unless and until GM and Nissan put an oil burner in the Colorado and Titan or Frontier.

But seriously, GM has had an oil burner in the Silverado, well, forever.
Nissan is putting one in the Titan, but that would only push Toyota to put one in the Tundra.

If Colorado is the only midsized oil burner, I would not expect Toyota to be one of the first to respond.

I wan those things because I drive 30-40K miles per year. Yes, most of them are luxury items but I have no problem paying for them. Toyota ought to at least provide them as options.

I do not want t full size truck, I just want a few amenities and I can't be the only one out there that feels this way. Heck, look at the forum topics and you'll see interest.

It's time for Toyota to step up to the plate. If they do they just might see how much pent up demand there is for a refresh. If they do it they'll crush the Colorado and rein champion for another 9 years.

In follow-up to my last response, you have to keep in mind what we're comparing these to.

    From this...

    ...to this...

With that being said, I don't see a time in the near future (10+ years) that I will be a non-Toyota owner. I could honestly not care less whether Toyota brings a diesel to the States. I've got the 2.7L in my current Tacoma and I love it. No qualms whatsoever.

Good looking truck. It is funny how bottom half of the front end is a Tacoma match.

I considered getting one a while back. Although my dads has constant ABS issues with his.

The Tacoma will be completely updated for the 2016 MY. I can all but promise you they are working on it as we speak. The auto industry is all a game and is so predictable. One manufacture will be the top dog for maybe a full model year, then the competition will up the ante and so on and so on. GM will take some Tacoma sale numbers for at least 2 years. The new Tacoma will be a lot like the 4runner in terms of interior IMO.
