Hi all. My wife picked up a new 4runner that has a heated steering wheel. The steering wheel looks to be the same as the Tacoma. Would it be as simple as new wheel and wire in a switch? Anyone hear attempt this? Didn't think it would be worth it but man its nice when its 16 degrees out.
    Thanks

I would also do this swap if fairly straightforward. I thought heated steering wheels were idiotic until I had a rental with one in the dead of winter!

Sounds doable. Need to locate heated wires and supply power with a switch. Not sure if that if using an already integrated steering wheel ground or would need to supply an additional ground for that

I think there’s a thread with extensive info, I’m on my phone right now or I’d look it up.

You'd need the clockspring (spiral cable) from the 2023 4Runner with extra high-current wiring, among other things: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...d-steering-wheel-components-on-tacoma.779356/

The wires likely run through the clock spring for the airbag and other steering wheel controls

+1 at getting the cable through the clockspring would be a real pain in the ass. I'd pay for it because the Tacoma heating takes like 27 years to get warm and so pointing vents at the steering wheel is barely even viable when we're in -20.

As much as I love doing mods like this, the cost of the new steering wheel and clock spring alone make this a hard one to swallow financially.

^Yep, since the option is so new, parts will likely all need to be OEM. Probably around $1500 at retail prices.

I wouldn't even go there. I just know if I were to attempt this it would go south real quick. For me, very few things are easy when retrofitting.

I thought this much but thought I would throw it out there. Thanks for the brain storm.

I hope someone figures out how to make it work. Heated steering wheel is the feature I miss most about my old truck. Seems unnecessary but so comfy in the winter.
