The wife got me SEMA 4Runner wheels for my birthday, and I had to get some new 17” tires for them, so I went with some (semi) tall skinny 255/75R17 Duratracs. Not a super popular size around here for whatever reason, but I’ve seen a few. They’re a true 32x10 tire… I think the perfect “in between stock and 33s” size for a Tacoma with a small lift (mine is 1” all around). Anyway, thought I’d share if anyone cares. Cheers.

Very nice! I have a 2/1 Bilstein lift with the TRD SEMA wheels but run 265/70s and looking at 275/70s or 255/75s. I'm hearing a 265/75 is coming out from Toyo and a 275 in SL or C rated as well. How is the handling with a skinnier tire and what rating C or E?

I have the exact same set up as the OP, just installed two weeks ago. I also a tune on my truck. Either I got lucky or this tire size/weight is the sweet spot for this truck cause it drives amazing now. Zero gear hunting, just smooth predictable power. Ride quality/handling is great so far. I’ve gone from being on the fence about selling this truck to loving it.

Mine are SL rated (which seems to be about the same as C). The handling feels a little tighter with these new tires, I’m guessing because the skinnier contact patch, but it’s not a huge difference in handling from the SL 265/75R16s Wildpeaks I had. The New Duratracs ride about the same as far as comfort too.

Nice. I noticed my truck has a little more get up and go now, which surprised me since these Duratracs are taller. But they only weigh 40 lbs. compared to my Wildpeaks at 44 lbs., and the SEMA wheels are 24 lbs compared to my stock OR wheels at 26, so I think losing ~6 lbs. per tire/wheel is what made the difference in better acceleration, because it’s noticeable, and a pleasant surprise! My truck has never really hunted for gears too much like most report, but I noticed it holding the gears for a few more RPM before shifting with the new Duratracs… almost like it’s halfway between the normal shifting and ECT on, which I like too. So yes I agree, I think these tires are the absolute sweet spot for my truck too!

Have the same tires would agree definitely a great fit for the Taco. My wheels went up in weight with FJ steelies from Trail 16" alloys, but ride is better

No difference in handling whatsoever coming from 265. Not sure why so many folks think that 10mm per corner makes any difference in handling.

If we talking about 235s then I could see that.

I agree, there’s little to no difference in handling between 265s and 255s. And even though the 255s are a little bit skinnier, with the 4mm offset SEMA wheels, my overall stance still ended up about 1.25” wider overall than it was with my (25mm) OR wheels and 265s. My truck corners better now, rides smoother, takes off quicker, my MPGs seem about the same, and it looks better.. win win win win win.

Anyone switch from 285's to 255/75/17? I have the 285's now just wondering if its worth the switch.

I haven’t ever had 285s on this truck, but I have had them on other trucks, and the 255s will no doubt save you some mpgs and restore a bit of that lost power coming from 285s. 255/80R17s are actual 33s (and there will still be a difference), but 255/75R17s are 32s. So, going from 285s to the these 255/75s, you’ll be going from a ~33x11 tire to a 32x10 (that’s also several lbs. lighter), and that will make a huge difference in performance.

Looks good. Do they rub the mud flaps at all in any condition? 265/70R17 on the SEMA wheels rubbed the mud flap when turning and hitting a bump or braking. Was annoying enough for me to downsize tires. I’m on the fence between 255/75 and 235/80.

I suppose your 1" lift might help you, I have no lift and no plans to.

I haven’t heard any rubbing on the mud flaps or anywhere else so far in the 5 days I’ve had these tires on. I’ve made a few tight turns over curbs to see if I could make it rub and it didn’t. I haven’t been on any dirt roads yet, but I don’t think it’s going to be an issue. I asked the tech to push the caster forward as much as possible at my last alignment, so that probably helped in the rub dept. too.

I have 5100s set on the 4th perch, SEMA wheels and 265/70s Toyo with no rubbing and not even close. Maybe an alignment willhelp you. The Off Road shop that I have used for years did mine and I have the factory mud guards. They swear a 285/70/Toyo at3 will fit and wont rub. I do have almost 2 inches of clearance on the closest points of contact on the factory the mud guards. a year ago I tried on a set of SEMA wheels with BFGs in 285 and they fit just perfect. Drove around and no issues, didn't flex it much. The only draw back is his center of the tire was worn versus the sides. The wheel is too narrow for a 285. Love to see a 265/75 or maybe a 275 in a SL or C rated tire from Toyo.

They look cool. Definitely a different sort of size though. I run 255/80/17s on my rig.

Loving this thread as I've been looking at 265/70/17 so the 255/75/17 is an interesting option. One question that I've been wondering, are the SEMA 4-Runner wheels the same as TRD Pro wheels except for 17" vs 16"? Are there SEMA Tacoma wheels?

Toyota only makes the style of wheels on my truck (OP here) in a 17x7 as far as I know, and they are the 4Runner TRD SEMA wheels. I know there are some aftermarket companies that make 16” versions of this SEMA wheel tho. I saw several of them when I was shopping around, but ultimately went with the OEM 17s because there are a lot more tire options for 17s compared to 16s, and the aftermarket SEMA style wheels weren’t really much cheaper than OEM anyway, so it was a no brainer for me to get the real deals.

There are a couple different styles of Tacoma TRD Pro wheels that are 16s, but none of them look like the SEMA wheels. I believe they are all 13mm offset (vs. 4mm for the SEMAs), so they will be tucked in a little bit more as well. Toyota also makes the bronze TRD Trail Edition wheels, which are 16s and have the same 4mm offset as the SEMAs, but again, they have a different look than the SEMAs.

The ones I have on my truck I believe are the 2021 new style SEMA wheels, which come on the new 4 runners I think. I liked the look of the new ones vs. the old ones but kinda personal opinion…

I see a Nokian Outpost AT in 255/75/17 comes in a SL rating at 41 pounds with tuff sidewalls, a killer warranty and not too expensive. I'm wishing for a SL in some Toyos 255s or 275s.

Toyo AT3s come in a C rated 255/75R17. C and SL are pretty similar load ratings. I have C rated 285/75R17 Toyo AT3s on my 4runner and they ride about as smooth as the SL Duratracs on my Tacoma. Cs are definitely not harsh if what you’re trying to avoid is Es.
