Has anyone had luck talking dealers down on the new tacomas? I’ve looked in to the TRD sport and was wanting to know what people are getting them for.

I also have access to the vspp program.
What would be better talking them down or using the vspp program?

Depends on what part of the country you’re in, in the Portland Oregon area you can get $3K off MSRP.

I'm not sure what the vspp program is, but Costco, banks and credit unions usually offer pre-negotiated car sale deals too. $3k off msrp is reasonable.

I wouldn't trade in unless the price and tax savings makes sense.

I just came home from getting a few parts from one of the bigger Toyota Dealers in SoCal, and the amount of 2024 tacos on the lot and not one customer was crazy. When I bought my 2011, there wasnt any in inventory but 1 white in SoCal and I had to wait for 3 months before one showed up from the factory in my color, they were selling so fast back then.

3 grand off as a starter seems to be common.

I had to drive across the state to get my ‘18 OR with a 3k discount, but the dealers around here won’t stop harassing me to take a ‘24 off their lot, so I’m guessing if anyone wants one with cash on the hood, it’s probably a 10min drive to get it.

In the example of post #48 on the above link, MSRP on the Sport was $53K. Invoice is typically close to what the dealer paid for the truck ($49k). Most likely that dealer got Holdbacks, incentives or other discounts allowing the dealer to sell the truck for $49k and still make some money.

Keep in mind that discounts will be on inventory that isn't selling instantly. Like pretty common builds and colors most likely. If you're discerning about a rare color or unique configuration you won't have as much leverage to ask for a big price cut. They know someone else will probably pay the MSRP for it. At least that's been my experience. Basically white, underground, and black SR5s will be discounted just about anywhere. TRD Premium or longbed/MTs that are one-offs are not being marked down much and sometimes marked up.

VSPP should be invoice less holdback less advertising fee.

I haven’t seen much off of Premium. I got 1k off and that was good enough for me.

3k under should be your starting point this is for trucks from Ventura to San Diego. In talking to some of the dealers before I bought my 2024. There is a big shipment of trucks arriving in the next couple of weeks and they need to move their current inventory so they are not stacking up in their lots.

$2k off TRD Sport Premium. Picked it up the day it arrived at the dealership. Gotta shop around your area, there are some that are advertising 2-3k off on all their tacoma's on the lot.

May want to make sure they are doing VSPP. I just bought a RX350 with the VSPP and asked the guy how much a Tacoma would be with it and he told me that they were not doing it on the Tacoma. When I looked at the attachments for April the Tacoma had nothing listed so I would definitely make sure before you go down. VSPP is almost always cheaper than anything you can get from a dealer. They take invoice minus holdback minus attachment.

The last Tacoma I bought on VSPP was in 21 during Covid and it was $4,000 off MSRP so I would think it would be similar, just make sure the dealer you are dealing with knows how to process the VSPP purchase because not all dealers know how or participate, found that out when I was shopping for the RX.

I wouldn’t buy anything until the hybrids get fully rolled out and further pressure dealer inventories. Nobody seems to want SR5’s or Sports even with $3k discounts, so why bail the dealer out and buy the lone TRD OR on the lot? Wait until fall when there’s more of everything, and ‘24’s are sitting next to ‘25’s…

All good news ahead if you want one. Just keep in mind that heavy discounts and heavy fleet sales typically ain’t so friendly resale values.

I paid MSRP - but they didn't charge me for the various options that were already on it and they gave me a decent trade in amount for my 2020 Limited.
