When you think you heard it all....With in the past couple of weeks I spent over $500. in the parts department for my 05 Matrix @ Newburgh Toyota Rt. 17K Newburgh NY....and also I wanted to replace my negative battery cable on my 2014 Tacoma, which by the way, I bought both vehicles there brand new.... So the young new parts guy went on the computer & said its part of a engine harness & it was over $300.. I said no, the cable goes from the neg terminal on the battery to the inner fender apron, its about 5-6 inches long....He insisted he was correct....I returned on another day with a picture & got a dIMG_9836.jpg ifferent parts guy & he concluded the same thing.....I then asked their shop must have replaced negative battery cables & I'm sure they didn't replace the complete engine harness, & he just gave me a dumb look.....and by the way the parts manager would not come out of hiding to help a customer.....Yeah, I can go to Auto Zone or NAPA & get a very similar cable, but I really want to go back to the dealer with a part number...Can anybody help me with the Toyota part number so I can go back & order it....Thanks

This is as far as I can get into the Electrical section of Toyota Parts Online. Can anyone get to the figure they are referencing in the manual? the only parts listed below the diagram below are the battery terminal for positive and the cover. Where are my parts people @?

    1.jpg

Edit: @03maurderman your parts guys are probably giving you strange answers because the Toyota parts catalog does not make it easy to find the part. I looked for longer that I should and still cannot find it. I would just build my own from generic parts from NAPA or order this and buy a battery terminal kit like this. If you find the part number please comment, this is a bit of a mystery to me.

Edit 2: My search fu is novice.... negative battery connector and ground to body mount is sold as a complete engine harness. Click through the thread and you'll see the part (PN 82122 | figure 82-02 is in the engine harness section of the online manual credit to @TnShooter for finding the correct part).

Nope...Its obvious there's an issue with the database, & the unwillingness of the parts department to make an effort to investigate & resolve a problem is beyond giving them a pass. Laziness, & not caring, is simply unacceptable...This is work ethics & if I were on that side of the counter I would not put myself in the position to have a customer walk out thinking what a lazy loser I was, & that's exactly what I thought of them....So now I'm doing my home work & will go back....How about when grandma goes to this dealer for a new battery & cables,??? are they going to charge her for an engine wiring harness??? or call NAPA for an aftermarket part at a Toyota Dealer ??........

Just get an aftermarket. Not a critical part. Smear some dielectric grease all over the terrminal AFTER you make the connection.

I used to live in New Windsor, NY. Hey buddy

There is more to the negative cable than just the small wire to the fender.
FWIW, Toyota sells the cable as a harness package. Sorry to tell you, but the parts guy is right.
I’d make my own cable before I paid that price.944E9770-E527-488C-A0D9-A1306467AF30.jpg2F933C0E-803B-42B0-9B9C-CDB1BED52B61.jpg

disconnect the cables, remove the NEG cable and remove it from the fender. dip the rusty end in some coke, let it sit a little bit should eat any rust, and corrosion off the cable end, a small scrub with a wire brush should be good to go. Then rinse in clean water. let that all dry out put it back. and a little white lithium grease smeared all over should keep that from happening again

It’s crimped in tandem with the main negative line. That’s why they can’t/won’t sell you just a fender cable as it’s not separate.

Any vehicle where I’ve had the negative cable be absolutely unsalvageable/corroded I cut the old terminal off, make a new fender ground and crimp terminal rings to all ends, and run a military style negative terminal or similar.

????... The example of my picture is not knowing what to do about corrsion, its to validate the negative cable is not part of an engine wiring harness...This whole thread is about simply purchasing a negative battery cable from a Toyota dealer???? Just don't get how something so simple is so complicated??? Looks like people need to go to the university of battery cables !!!

What is an engine wiring harness?
    Serious question?

To me, the Negative cable is PART OF an engine harness.
It even bolts to the ENGINE.
You made a whole post on how the parts department wanted to sell you a harness.
I posted the part # like you asked. The wire you asked about IS part of a harness.

Buy an aftermarket terminal and make your own.
I’d recommend crimping the wires, but bolting it works too.

TN Shooter./JdevTac......That diagram that you are showing is the same as the one on the dealer computer....There is No tamdem wire, as shown in the diagram....I bought the truck new, no one has ever worked on it, the battery cable has never been off, the battery is original, no one has monkeyed with it........ Unless somebody can dispute my picture I'm open to my misunderstanding & error.....Think maybe a Corolla, Camry or any other Toyota product has the same cable ??? - As a side bar, when I bought the truck I was disappointed that it didn't have intermittent wipers...The salesman, service dept, & the parts dept said that's the way it is & nothing can be done......Thanks to this forum I learned that the Corolla wiper switch was all that was needed to make the Tacoma have intermittent wipers......

What you're not showing us is the other side of the cable. It is part of the rest of the harness, hence the price issue that you're seeing.

Try taking another picture of the cable, from another angle and you will see. Its dark in my picture, but its there if you zoom in

    Yes, this is.
    Can we get different picture?
Because I’ve never seen the small cable separate from the large one.

No way that short body ground is carrying all the load.

Lets see a pic of the backside of that battery.

Can confirm it goes to the engine block and body on a 14, grounds to the block right below the starter.
I can believe it's sold as an assembly, most battery cables are on vehicles.
If you wanted to "cheat" buy a cable with eylets in both ends and go from the body to the block and another short cable from the battery to the body.

Im not sure where your hangup is. The short cable is crimped together with the large negative cable to the terminal. The Toyota dealer won’t sell it to you separate or crimp it at the dealer. Dealerships nowadays don’t care if the fix is easy. If they can’t sell it to you separate they will only sell you the whole harness.

What exactly do you think they will do? Uncrimp your negative cable and recrimp it with a new fender ground? You could take it to any other reputable independent shop and have them fix it if you don’t know how. Toyota isn’t going to do it short of you buying a ridiculously expensive harness.

    Good luck with all that.

I've been twisting wrenches all my life & I'm 72 yrs old.....What do you mean by the "back side' of the battery ??? - I failed to mention the truck is a 4 cylinder, obviously from the pic above, it references a 6 cylinder & I do see the tandem wire.....Should clear up some confusion......However I did provide the dealer with the vin #
