I have an 02' X-tra cab Tacoma, TRD, V6, manual trans, push button 2-4 selector, and push button diff lock. I am having an extremely hard time finding a used transfer case or parts for a rebuild.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am located in northern CA

I have the same exact truck/ case. They're IMPOSSIBLE to find (used/rebuilt)! the push button 4x4 is a stupid rare option only available for 2 years?! It Was also available in certain 4runners. When i asked around here before someone posted a link to a page someone painfully put together comparing ALL the t-cases available for tacos/ 4runners which was helpful to get more info. However I have yet to find any sort of "rebuild" let alone a re-seal kit for these tcases. Mine works flawlessly but at 390,000 miles it leaks quite a bit. I'm planning on replacing my 5 speed (R150F) with a rebuilt unit and when I do I plan on re-sealing mine myself. My first try was gonna be yota shop to see what they have in seals for em followed by a call to my local toyota dealer for any other seals yotashop does not carry. calling local dealer with your vin # will ensure you get the exact parts for your unicorn case. Wish i had more answers, maybe others will chime in with some!

Have you tried car-part.com. You might have some luck at the dismantlers in Rancho Cordova

That is terrible news. I read that thread you are referring too, and although it has very nice pictures; it doesn't provide any factory part numbers to order parts. The internals on mine are all buggered up 414,000+ miles.

Yeah, went there a while ago because they said they had one, but didn't. Then sent me to another place they said they knew had one; they didn't. That shop called the other shop and told me they made a mistake and they had 4. So, i went back and they were wrong....wasted 3.5 hours of my life.

Locker really doesn't make a difference. Just that one sensor on the side that you can swap over in 30 seconds.

You could also get an auto one and swap the input shaft. Or just swap to a J shift.

What's wrong with your current one, there's not much to go bad?

from my research you CAN bolt up and make work a regular (non push button) "J-Shift" t-case from any other taco/ 4 runner but you'll loose the push button feature. And i'm not clear on what if any affect that would have on the E-Locker. If you went this route the t-case would have to come from a R150F 5 speed exclusively.

One or more of the following: Chain failure, bearing failure, damaged gears. The shop i took it to said when they drained the fluid, all sorts of metal shavings and chunks of metal came out.

They did not. The condition was so bad it was undriveable and i had it towed to them. It is now drivable at low speed/short distance but doesn't have fluid in it. I figured they must have fairly been honest due to the concept that debris being, from some failed part, removed from the inside of the case somewhat normal/smooth operation was partially restored. i have not pulled it back off to check for myself. Do you have any suggestions on what to troubleshoot next? please advise.

I have an electric push button transfer case on an auto trans that I can part with. Other than the smooth spin of the output flange I can not speak to it's condition.

Just swap in a j-shift transfercase and call it a day. You can do the grey wire mode so there should be any reason the rear locker wont work.

Do you know if i would need to put manual locking hubs on the front end when going with a J-shift?

You can if you want but a.d.d. came with both push button and j-shift transfer cases.
