    So I bought the factory spoiler thing for the 4Runner I just purchased, and I'm installing it to the factory spec which calls for 5M rivnuts. The instructions say to use a 7.60 drill but for the hole and I've wasted 2 days looking for the proper drill bit which doesn't seem to exist. I don't see any reason I can't just drill a 7mm hole, right?

    If so, what size drill bit should I use? This thing is turning into way more of a headache than it should be. Math nor construction have ever been my strong suit.

    Do a 19/64 = .2969"
    7.6mm = .299"
    When feeling stupid just google it.

    And 7mm way small if you truly need 7.6mm

    The actual Toyota instruction sheet says to use a 7.60 drill bit, but the riv nut kit I have says to use a 7 mm hole, so I feel like as long as I get the riv nut in, the rest shouldn't matter too much.

    This is why tap and drill equivalency charts exist. Slap one up in your shop and it’s a no brainer.

    Fraction charts are popular too

    Are you using the riv nuts from the spoiler or from a kit?

    A kit that I ordered from Amazon but it's not here yet, I was just reading the instructions.

    I do have the factory screws though that go into the rivnut.

    If you used the exact size then you'll need to be extremely precise on the placement. The 7.6 mm (19/64th) gives you nominal clearances for a little slop in placement. Measure thrice, cut once, and use a fine tip punch to mark the hole so your drill bit doesn't wander.

    I have already drilled the pilot holes so really hoping I didn't mess them up. If so, i might just have to do without the spoiler and have holes in the tailgate.

    They do sell to the public, you need to create a user account. I buy stuff from them all the time for various projects. I use them quite a bit for work as well, but there's no link between my work and private accounts. They're usually my go-to for oddball stuff.

    Amazon sucks because sometimes it can be a pain to find things. For example, searching for "7.6mm jobber drill bit" turned up nothing on the first page. Searching for "7.6mm metric jobber drill bit" turns up a three pack, though it has no reviews: https://www.amazon.com/7-6mm-Metric...=7.6mm+metric+jobber+drill+bit,aps,353&sr=8-2
