Buying a trailer, first time towing. Trailer is 8 feet wide so will need extensions on my mirrors to see down the sides. I don't want to replace the entire mirror assembly, just want attachments. Read that some extensions are flimsy and flap in the wind, so would like experienced replies please!

Back in the 60's & 70's fender mounted towing mirrors were often used, they had 2 brackets that went on the fender and a clamp that went to the wheel arch with a turnbuckle to tighten them.

Large cars were used for towing back then, I haven't seen them on a vehicle in years.

8' sounds kind of wide for a trailer.

Not if they op has a snowmobile trailer. I went to Etrailer for mirror extensions towing my 101'' enclose trailer when I had a tundra.

What about some added cameras on the side facing the rear and their own small monitor?

I just purchased the CIPA 11980 adjustable universal bar towing mirror. Not sure which universe they mfg in, because it doesn’t fit on my tacoma. No place to clip it as per the mediocre instructions. I noticed this mirror receiving positive reviews on this forum, presumably from other tacoma owners. Any suggestions before I return it?
I intend to clip it on only when at the boat ramp.

I don't have that one, but the attachment points look similar to mine. The bottom of the mirror works great for me (not my picture, but how I mount mine)

Here's a picture of yours from the Amazon reviews.

Thanks, everyone for your assistance. This is a terrific forum.
Question: Although I intend to only clip on this mirror when handling my fishing boat at a ramp, I did notice that when applied correctly, the clip on mirror prevents the power mirror from extending all the way down, because they are touching (minor issue, but I do this occasionally when backing up into tight spaces). Suggestions?

Adjust your mirrors before you put on you tow mirrors.

That makes sense, thanks. I have limited boating experience (my son will be captain), but buying a new trailer makes me more nervous than I imagined. Last thing I want is for my truck to be stuck in a lake. Youtube videos are helping. I assume the extended mirror, coupled with the truck cameras, will help

Haha, if you see a bunch of people standing around taking videos you might want to rethink what you are doing.

For me backing up our 19ft RV is easier than our little boat trailer. Practice practice practice. And then wait until you have the ramp to yourself.

do you have 4wd? Might throw it on while launching the boat- wet pavement can be slippy and the dirt banks I climb out of are too.

I would use the 4x4 exiting the ramp. Wouldn’t it actually be harder in reverse backing into the ramp?

Would you use the high, or low gear (4x4)?
