I don't like driving at night since the head lights are not very bright is there anything i can buy that is brighter without doing any mods to the wiring?

I have the Halogen Sealed glass ones.

Hella E-codes and some good GE or Osram bulbs. Or buy some 5x7 retros from builders here on the forums.

My book says it's a H6059 and the bulb is a 9003 which i do not understand as you can not remove the bulb.

That's why you want a Hella E-code. They have removable H4 bulbs.

    Get these bulbs: H6054B - 100/55W Hella Halogen HL78158
I also upgraded the wiring as well with a Relay harness (https://www.rallylights.com/hl282s-upgrade-headlamp-harness-for-switched-ground-vehicles.html)

Here is a couple pictures of my Hella E-code lights with the 100/55w bulbs.

Bulbs and a new harness will give you a bit of a bump in light output but if you really want good brights put on some led pods of Hellas. I started with the Osram bulbs and rally lights harness and it was definitely brighter but the high wattage bulbs burned out way too frequently for my liking...so I got a bull bar and put on two hella 700 floods

And yes, look at the write up I did (posted above) on the harness and bulb upgrade, there’s a lottt of info in there now. @crashnburn80 wrote the original one for second gens iirc and he has a lot of info in there too

I drive a lot at night about 40 hours a month night shift job that takes a hour to get there and back 2 hours round trip. If these bulbs are only good for 200 hours it would only last me 5 months.

I would like something simple and drop in. What is the harness for anyway? Can the old one not handle any power.

    Thanks for the info!

Larger wires means less voltage drop allowing more power to make it to the lights. If you look at crashnburn’s thread he lists a bunch of options for bulbs. Including stock wattage bulbs which will last much longer.

You could get the Trucklite or JW Speaker 5x7 LED's. They will last the longest and be drop in. I'm not a fan of the output but people do like them as an upgrade.

Do you have a link? Do they replace the entire reflector assembly? Newer first gens have the rectangular headlights, I can't remember if the pre-2000 ones do..

This is for early years Tacoma that use factory sealed H6054. Later models use plastic lens lamps (aerodynamic) with H4 bulbs - these are different.

First of all sealed H6054 are garbage. This is technology from mid last century. No low beam cut-off so the output is directed away form oncoming traffic making it hardly usable for anything other than daytime running lights. Hella e-Code or cheaper Autopal-e-code is the way to go. Both take H4 bulbs which are electrically 100% compatible with H6054. Both Hella and Autopal fit mechanically into H6054 slot. So it is zero mod upgrade.

I'm driving Autopal E-code 200mm lamps with Silvania Silver Star H4 bulbs, stock wiring. I still have Hella in the box waiting for Autopal to get crushed by a road rocks. I took a picture on some dirt road at pitch black night to really document how Autopal lamps perform: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-or-rysium-build.457350/page-10#post-24429593

If you keep the stock wattage bulbs, no wiring needed. Start there, the beam pattern and H4 bulbs are a HUGE jump up from sealed beams.

Nope. Silvania Silver is standard 65/55W bulb. I did not mess with headlight wiring. All is very simple plug and play.

By the way I do recommend Hella over Autopal. Hella is better, Autopal is budget (two Autopal lamps cost me about 50 dollars on ebay then, while Hella was close to 100 dollars a piece). I remember Autopal lamp was a bit loose in Tacoma headlight frame - I had to use a piece of foam to keep it steady. Hella was solid fit. What you can expect - Autopal is made in India, Hella in Germany.

One very very important thing. If you get H4 bulbs with your purchased reflectors (Hella or Autopal) do not even think about installing them. Fight the temptation and throw them directly into trash bin. Don't look back. They are always cheaply made (noname) and they perform like a junk. Go to the store and buy Phillips or Silvania H4 bulbs. Do not settle for anything else - the quality of the bulb it as important as the quality of the reflector. The geometry of the bulb is extremely important for the light output performance (throwing the light where it should be).

In the owners manual it says stock bulb 9003 is 60/55 headlight unit H6059 65/35.....a bit confusing to me.....so which is it.

The stock headlight is a H6054. The 9003 is a H4 style bulb but that's for the later years with removable bulbs. The stock wiring plugs work for both.

ok so the max watts the stock wiring harness can handle is 60/55? Is the low beam using 60 watts or 55?
