So i just recently purchased an aftermarket kenwood stereo which came with a SWI-RC steering wheel control interface. I followed all of the directions and cant seem to figure out how to program it. It turns on i just can't get it to work. I spliced the white wire to the wire in pin 7 on the stock plug and the white/black to the wire in pin 8. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I have been trying to get mine to work for awhile. I'm thinking of throwing it in the trash and buying the Metra which I believe is plug and play, no splicing or soldering in resistors.

This is what you need. I've not done my Tacoma yet but have a radio and harness made up sitting on my kitchen table.

You can make the ASWC-1 do whatever you want if you don't like the factory setup. Programming is tedious but it is very flexible. If there is a function that your radio supports and you don't have a button that does it, you can reassign buttons to perform that function.

You can put just about any resistor combination in and build controls if you want and make this recognize it. I added controls to my Dodge Ram and went totally away from the factory setup as it relied on a data connection that the dealer would have to program, so the controls would send a signal to the truck can-bus system and then to the ASWC-1. Most dealers didn't know how to do this and said what I was trying to do couldn't be done, so I just cut out the middle man and everything works perfectly.

Ive seen how easy it is to install the axxess and how it self programs but to pay 80 dollars? Would be nice to have seering wheel controls but not at that price

So after countless different methods i decided to just take the chance and cut the harness off. Ended up crimping the wires srraight to eachother and now it works perfect. No delays on the buttons to the reciever. Pretty happy i got it to work. Persistence = success

I just got my kenwood/pac in the mail yesterday. So you're saying you cut the wires at the factory harness and straightwired them? I gotta say that I'm pretty good at wiring, but reading through these directions is a little confusing. I mean damn, can a guy get some pictures?
