So the oil housing broke on my 2017 Ted sport I had a massive oil leak and had to drive it back with relatively no oil while low oil pressure light was on. It stalled and I had it towed the rest of the way. I changed the housing out new oil and a new filter in and it turns on but runs rough and has a rattling noise that comes and goes but is mostly there with alittle white smoke from exhaust with probably is just the exhaust. The low oil pressure light is still on as well and it lunges alittle if I change it from park to reverse or drive. Any ideas on if it’s fix able and what I can do other than take it to the shop or get a new engine.

Why did you have to drive it with no oil? My bet is that your engine is toast. Hot little metal components don't like oil starvation. Your rattle is probably knock from fucked rod bearings.

Purchased Toyota Certified, with Vijay bumpers, additional lights, and Falken Wildpeaks on Fuel rims. Prev owner apparently painted the grill.
10 minutes is a long time with low/no oil. Sounds like it is time to get a professional to check it over. You best bet is to come clean and tell them exactly what happened.

Probably did some serious damage brother. Next time shut the engine off the second that low oil pressure light comes on.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
I'd also contact the shop that did your change and give them a heads up you'll be talking to them a lot. Hope they have insurance. Unless you or your buddy did this in which case, hope you have insurance and it'll cover the mess up. As others said, you're probably toast with the engine. Only way to fix is get new, get used or roll dice on rebuild. This forum will not be able to determine that for you though.

I'm curious about what caused the filter housing to crack. Details?

Hop on marketplace, look for a used, good condition heavily modified DeLorean, you want the seller to look a little odd wearing a white lab coat. if you can get it up to 88MPH you can possibly save your truck.

$10 says some moron installed it with a power tool. Been down that road with the boss lady's Rav4. Luckily hers didn't crack until it came time to remove it.

The gap between "take it to a shop" and "put a new engine in" is fairly wide and as @Smacky2020 said, forum can't determine your course of action for you. Just take it to the shop IMO (is this the shop that did the work or someplace else?). Low oil + low oil pressure + stalling = less than ideal.

    Welcome to the forum.

I will second the previous posters in saying that the moment a low oil light comes on in a vehicle you must immediately stop and shut off the engine.

Your engine is likely toast and will need to be rebuilt. As for exactly what is internally wrong with it this forum can't tell you. Only the person who tears the engine down will be able to say. Regardless it will be an expensive repair. Who will bear the cost depends entirely on the factual circumstances of your case.

The most important info we are missing right now:

-When did the last oil change occur? (Original post is unclear)

-Was it an independent shop or a Toyota dealer?

-How many miles on your truck? Is the cracked oil filter canister the original?

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
You'll be fine. Big oil is in cahoots with most major auto makers to install those "low oil warning" lights and a device in the engine which makes a knocking sound when the oils is low enough to let it swing. It's all just a scam and is not needed. The pieces of the engine are all made from the same type of metal - meaning that they are exactly the same hardness and they cannot damage each other. These things can run run for years and years without giving in to the big-oil lies.

And while we're at it, don't listen to big-raw fish conglomerates. Eating gas station sushi is perfectly safe!

ugh, for future reference, never drive on no/low oil unless your life is in jeopardy,,, and that will only be for about 30-90 seconds.

    Whole lotta' momentum
If it's running rough now, the damage has been done. That much heat generated also probably warped other components. My bet is new engine. Sorry OP.
