I'm trying to mount and power a 2m/70cm 50w radio in my truck. So I need at least 12 amps.

I'd like to do it without pulling the dash apart. Or even find some place to do it for me.

It's very easy to poke a little hole in the main wire grommet in the firewall behind the e brake pedal and feed wires through. Use an online calculator or chart to determine a safe wire gauge for 12 amps at the length of wire you expect to run.

At 12v, you can use 14awg up to about 11 feet with 2% or less voltage drop (important for electronic items). If you can get by with 7 feet, you can use 16awg - easiest to go through the main grommet as @Jojee117 stated - just make sure you don't tear anything trying to get the new wire through.

Edit - this is assuming full copper wire (not CCA).

There is a small part that you can cut the tip off and feed wire through. It's on the lower side of the grommet.

Depending on where you're mounting the box, you can drop right behind the passenger's side dash (right behind the glovebox) with a very clear path by pulling out and modifying an unused firewall plug.

On the passenger's side firewall, you can pop out a plug, razor blade the inside of it out, and re-use the plug (now a grommet). Here's a post about it:

It should fall right into the footwell without even needing to remove the glovebox, and you can run it wherever you want from there, through the back of the dash, to the side of the console, or you can tuck it under the edge of the console to get under the seat cleanly.

There's also one of those on the driver side too. I ran my wires through it to some temporary (read: permanent) switches in my tiny coin cubby. When I eventually get around to building a fuse box and cleaning up the wires, Ill do that technique you shown in your post. I dont know if it'll be big enough to allow all the wires through when everything is done.

Ah yes. I looked at that plug in the passenger firewall again and pushed a screwdriver through the padding behind it. That looks like a good way to come through.
