    Hi all
Had issue starting engine after drained battery a while ago. I know the cause and it’s 2022 TRD. At Toyota dealer,
they ran “regular” battery test and came back as OK. I insist to keep the car and start engine in the morning. So they did and i’m sure they couldn’t start engine easily. So they ran “advanced” health test and it shows 94 CCA. They replaced it under warranty.
my question is that the regular test didn’t find the CCA state issue. if this is normal, i shouldn’t trust regular battery test?

Thank you for your intel in advance!

sounds like they tried to pencil-whip it and send you on your way the first time. I can't imagine what the cost difference is of the second test,, and why they would do the first test,,, in the first place.

The new batteries in these tacoma's really suck. There have been many issues on this topic with this 3rd gen.
I think tesla (dick fuck musk) and all the electric/hybrid vehicles from all manufacturers are taking the good elements to make those batteries. :ballchain:

The only thing I can say is these new hand-held battery testers are not always accurate.
I’ve had a battery fail with a snap on hand held tester but passed with the Midtronics GR-8…….and vice versa.
Bottom line is it should be at least 80% charge to test.
Years ago at Sears automotive we would put a loaner battery in your car, trickle charge the do a specific gravity measurement of each cell and individual cell voltage along with a manual load and recovery test.

True. on top of that, they had to give me a round trip ride including LYFT cost…
i read all and understood about 60% Ha ha. Thank you very much for the link. I guess the dealer should have listen what customer complained and do the advanced test first. But i now know to do that required some time and didn’t want to do the through test at first. At least they did and i got new battery. I learned new!

Looks like the initial test was done after driving, like what @Sandman614 said. I have tested dozens of batteries that were jumped and driven in, with a "Good" CCA reading. Those I will test several times in a row, to see if the battery will "recover" from the testing. And they usually fail after a few attempts. I would say all most 99% of the time, the techs will not go to the Advanced Tester right off the bat. It takes a long time, especially if the tester wants to charge and retest. It will do this several times. And can take up to an hour. That's a lot of dead time for the tech, who isn't getting paid while your battery is charging and taking up his lift.

This. My battery lasted just over 2 years in the Florida heat (my truck lives in the driveway) before the numbers on my tester started to drop. I went to Batteries Plus and had an X2 Power AGM battery dropped in so I don't have to worry about it for a while. Heat is a flooded battery killer.

They'd always tell me I must have a brand new battery when my Optima came back with like 1130 CCA on their normal test. I always wanted to flip the battery switch to my house setup, so it'd be pulling from all 3 Optimas... Forgot every dang time I went in, and now I don't have the triple battery setup anymore :( missed opportunity. My luck they'd pull the battery clamp off though, and zap something thinking it wasn't hooked to a battery when it was, so maybe it's a good thing I never did it.

Thank you very much for your intel sharing. By reading the Tacoma genuine battery is sucks, I'll consider getting AGM or other type after out of warranty...

You talking about Litium. Tesla battery is made by Panasonic. Panasonic made Battery Giga factory somewhere in desert to produce tons for Tesla. So their battery must be good. I also understand Tesla is now making it by themself after learning (stealing?) the know-how from Panasonic...

My original battery lasted 5 years. Batteries are like any other electronic part. The manufacturer has a "built in" defect rate, that is allowable. That's why they have warranties. The OEM battery on my Mercedes lasted 14 years. I tried to use Optima batteries in the past. And had no luck with them lasting more than a year. If the car sat for more then 3 weeks it was flat.

I had a Diehard battery that lasted ten years! It’s still amazing that retail giant is gone. Sears automotive used to sell a lot of tires and batteries. I remember one Saturday after thanksgiving we had a tire sale. All 28 bays did tires all day…500+ tires in one day.

Probably because CCA ratings are done at 0 degrees F. A good battery will always put out more than rated when its warmer than that.
