Crumbling plastic! One last fuel injector cup to remove! Is there a tool that exists than inserts through the center and pulls from underneath? Need advice.20210109_172821.jpg 20210109_172803.jpg 20210109_173454.jpg 20210109_173014_001.jpg

Drive an EZ out into it, twist it out of there (assuming that metal piece is a broken injector) otherwise a sharp pick to dig the seal out

That’s so odd, why do you need to remove it? I thought only the seals needed to be changed.

It's rubber and cracks so it's ability to help create a seal gets worse over time.

The injector cup is rubber? Mine is rock hard I thought it’s plastic.

    That's why you replace them.

I got it out! Tapped a small pick carefully down the side and got it to lift out, finally. The other three were still intact and I twisted them out with pliers. I plugged the intake ports with shop towels to keep the plastic bits from falling in the engine and i had a shop vac on standby. Hopefully this could help a future DIY'er. Thanks for all advice given!

I replaced the spacers cups and injectors today. The first cup I tried to remove broke at the lip. Lubed the cups with WD40, used a 3/8” easy-out to twist the cups and break the seal. Pulled the cups with the easy-out. Had a shop vac handy. Didn’t have to use it. NO LEAKS! Running much better too.

Nothing much. Upgraded mirrors to 01-04, upgraded taillamps to 01-04, upgraded cowl grill 01-04 because it has screen underneath to keep debris out, and has the rubber bumper in the middle to stabilize the hood. Upgraded the interior rearview mirror to 04 with dual map lights. Billet polished grill inserts. Sprayin bedliner.
A friend of mine did the injectors on his 2000 Tacoma w/2.4 liter last year and he used a 3/4 bolt, about 6 inches long. Once he removed the injectors, he kind of screwed the 3/4" bolt into the injector cups, and slowly turned the bolt with a wrench to loosen the cups, and gently worked the bolt from side to side and up and down a little while pulling on it , and pulled the cups out easy. They came out easy on his Tacoma.

I've got to replace mine now. I just purchased brand new OEM fuel injectors, injector cups, fuel pressure regulator, complete throttle body w/ TPS and IAC valve, intake manifold gaskets, fuel hoses, charcoal canister, all vacuum hoses, EGR valve, EGR modulator, spark plugs, ignition wires, coils, ECT.
It only has 180,000 on it but it sat in the back of my shop for about a year, and I think the fuel injectors being 25 years old went bad, and are dumping fuel. Really bad strong gas smell from exhaust.
