About 15 years, although very infrequently since we’ve had kids. I’ve always had roof racks in the past.

Just put the tailgate down and run a strap over it.

But if you need the bed space, get a roof rack.

I throw my paddle board and long board surf boards in just like that. I throw a towel over the tailgate and strap them down to the d rings in the bed. I have never had a problem doing this.

I do the same. I ride a heavy log so its weight keeps it pretty stable in the bed. Just put a couple of bungee cords over the board, and you’re extra good. Never had an issue and I drive from Vegas to South OC.

I have bed racks that I built. They handle my 9' and my 7' easily. They also hold my maxtrax and rotopax on either side of my truck.

Sorry to hijack but thanks for the picture . I grew up on 12th street and Olive and used to surf Northside of the pier between 11th down to the pier . They had buried the second piers pillars straight out 7th street(after the storm took out ruby's the second time) and made a artificial reef of sorts . There probably covered by now though . It's the only thing I miss about California besides my family still there.

I'd haul it exactly the way you are now. Another 1' in the long bed still leaves you short.

I can fit most boards that are 6'2" and under by angling them in the short bed. Anything bigger than that I just mount them to the roof rack ontop of my shell.

I wouldn't recommend putting a wet wetsuit on your pant. The salt will eat that up quick!

Make one of 2x4's. Pouring rain here right now, but I made one of 2x4's for 60 bucks counting black paint. I carried straight keel kayaks until last Fall when I sold them and bought 14.6" kayaks with serious rocker. So I bought 4x4 in untreated fir and made a doormat sandwich with plywood. Since there are 2 kayals, I made 4 blocks with V cuts to hold them. You won't need these blocks for a board. The nice thing is each block is held on by 1 carriage bolts with a wind nut, so they can come right off. I plan to take one set of to carry 1 kayak and one canoe. And can take them all off and carry lumber . Everyone says these look factory .

I can list the items for a rack 10 feet long if you replay and want more info and with pics I will take if you like.
