Need 3rd gen engine with warranty

Looking for a lead on a warrantied replacement 3.5 for my 2019 Tacoma. Third party warranty supposedly going to cover it as it just outside manufacturers warranty by a few thousand miles but it has to have a minimum 1 year warranty. I can find crate motors or even rebuilt motors available. Old motor blew head gasket got up to 277 degrees and dealer will not repair and warranty repair so that is not a good option.

 

Buy a new engine from Toyota, have it installed at a Toyota dealer, and you will have a warranty. Done.

 

just how much would that set one back ?

About 25k for a motor and 5-8k in labor

I ordered a new short block for my FJ and when picking it up they had a crate motor for a 4runner and the parts guy said it was about $25k so I assume that’s about what the 3.5 is

I hope you're kidding. I've never seen a motor replacement run that high for a non-exotic.

 

If it were me, I’d buy a used one for around $3K and forget the warranty.

 

I don't think toyota sells a crate or longblock 3.5. Shortblock is 3k though so not even close to 25 even if you replace both heads, cams, etc.

Yes, but Ford V8s. You can get a fully dressed 460 hp Coyote direct from Ford racing for 11k. Probably even cheaper if you shop around. No way ours is 25k. And this person should have a ton of parts that can transfer over.

 

The Coyote instead of the 3.5 might be one hell of a Tacoma....

 

A 1FZ-FE Long Block is $10k alone, Toyota no longer makes them. Short Block is $4.5k and an unassembled head with all parts is another $4.5k not including labor. This doesn't include injectors, waterpump, alternator, and everything else needed. Now I havent put together a parts list for a 3.5 2GR-FKS because I havent needed to but my complete part list for the 1FZ-FE is $26,844 in parts ALONE.

A new motor from Toyota is going to cost the same or more. Keep in mind the parts literally guy said $25k....I didnt press him beyond that.

 

Remind me if mine blows to build my own and get a bit more power while I’m at it.

A used one from LKQ is around 5-8k depending on mileage.

Are these engines not rebuildable by a machine shop?
