    Hello TW!

I have a 2013 4.0 with an Optima Yellow Top. I need the capability to run my daughter's nebulizer on our upcoming trip. It's a 12v 120. I'd need to run it for 10 minutes. Any advice or suggestions on inverter size would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Look on the machine to see how many amps it draws, your inverter should have at least that capability

I'd try that in the driveway at home before taking it on the road. Leave yourself the option to just "go back inside" if it doesn't work for some reason.

Did you put blackout lenses on your headlights, and then have to add LED lightbars to make up for the lack out light output? :notsure:

Another possibility is a small tank of oxygen or compressed air from a medical supply company.

Maybe run a second battery in a battery box. You can move around easily to charge and use. But what's the amp draw for it?

Is that 120watts? A lot of guessing due to lack of information. Is it a 12v device or 120v? How does it connect (what does the plug look like)?

Since you have an XSP, you should have the factory inverter, correct? It only takes about half an hour to add an outlet in the cab that taps into the built-in inverter.

Also, a nubulizer usually has a really low amp draw, you should be able to run it for well over an hour if you need to without fear of draining your battery (just make sure you have the heater blow set to off and your accessory lighting off as well).

See what the current rating is on the AC device. If its 5 AC amps, take 5 A x 120 V = 600 Watts. Multiply by 15% to 20% to get reasonable excess capacity without being super conservative, you'd be at 690 to 720 watts AC. That the size inverter to go with.

10 Minute duty cycle, I wouldn't be worried about draining the truck battery (assuming its not more than 3-4 years old & assuming 60-70% SoH) as long as the truck can be started and driven for a few minutes afterwards.

It’s 12 volt, why can’t you just plug it into the auxiliary outlet or cig lighter in the truck? Or run an extension cord from the inverter in the truck bed thru the rear slider window and use it while driving?

Yes they do, if the tank has a regulator/flowmeter attached.

They run off small o2 tanks just fine. I use them at work all the time.

If the electricity is not used to compress air, then what is the electricity used to do?

Do you have an ultrasonic nebulizer?

Out of curiosity, I looked up a couple nebulizers online. Looks like average amp draw is less than 1amp.

Also, most of them seem to be DC, so you're probably better off just buying a cigarette adapter for yours rather than an inverter.

Wow I never got email updates on this thread. Sorry guys!

Yes it's a 120 V 1.5 amps 60hz. I have a direct to battery line in the bed of my truck. My truck did NOT come with the outlet in the bed. I'd like to keep her in the truck for treatment if possible.

I'm mistaken! I guess one can use a small oxygen tank. Learn something new everyday.
