I'm trying to get everything set up on my 2020 Tacoma. When I push the Maps button I get a "The Navigation App is not installed" message on the screen. I read through the owners manual and couldn't find the answer to my problem. How to I get navigation to work?

    Thanks!

You will need to plugin your phone to the USB media port under the radio. This will allow you to use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. You can then use any of the various map apps available on your phone. (Google maps, Apple Maps, Waze, Gaia GPS, etc.)

Not sure how the 2020's are but my 2017 was like that. The issue was that I didn't have the map SD card installed. The dealership sent it over and it works now.

None of that works, I even tried Scout GPS app link like Toyota suggests and I keep getting messages that I need to download this or that from Toyotas website but there is nothing to download

    I don't see a SD card slot

I’m assuming you have Apple Car Play or Android Auto apps on your phone. All you need to do is just plug your phone to the car USB outlet using your normal phone charger. And then press the map button on the car and the gps will come up. Have you tried that? It should work? In order to get the gps to work, you will always need to connect your phone with the USB cable.

I have maps apps on my Apple phone but I don't think the truck has Apple car play. Every vehicle I've had navigation without connecting a phone so I'm kinda confused by this. When I hit the APPS button the only thing that comes up is an Alexa app

Your truck should have Apple car play since it's a 2020. There's a setting in the headunit to enable or disable it. It may already be enabled, just plug in your phone and see what happens.

Not maps app on your phone, that doesn’t work with the car. Apple Car Ply is the one that works with the car. Download the Apple Car Play app on your iPhone and try to plug it.

It does not have Apple car play, the only thing in Apps is Alexa+Toyota. Nothing happens when I plug in my phone. It keeps asking me to download Entune so I do that then next time I start the truck it asks me again. The two error messages I get are "The navigation App is not installed Please check Toyota website for compatible applications" and "To use sservices Toyota app must be running on your phone" its is running on my phone.

I'm not seeing "Apple Car Play" in the app store.

If you have integrated navigation built into the head unit it should look similar to this when you select Map.

CarPlay is built into your phone and doesn’t require a download. Go to Settings on the head unit, Setup, General, Projection Settings and make sure it is enabled.

When you select the Menu button on the side of the head unit there should be a selection on the screen that says Projection if you don’t have a phone plugged in and CarPlay/Android Auto if you have a phone plugged in. You also have to use the USB connection in the dash, not the ones in the center console.

It's part of the Premium package from what I recall.

It looks like you don’t need to download it. It’s built into your iPhone. Apple already set it up from factory.
Then on your iPhone, go to Settings > General > CarPlay> Available Cars and choose your car.

Not all Tacoma's came with built in navigation. My 2020 or my 2021 didn't have it. The built in ones the maps suck anyways. I just plug my phone in and use Google maps.

I am having this same issue. I press the Maps button and it says the app is not installed. Seems like there is a lot of conflicting information with this, so correct me if I'm wrong. What I'm understanding is that some Tacos do not have this feature installed from the factory. Is that right?

I am not interested in using CarPlay at all. I want the satellite nav from factory (no matter how garbage people say it is haha). I just like having a map displayed at all times while driving whether I have signal or not. So if this is the case and not all Tacos come with it...is there a way to get it? If its some expensive thing I need to pay the dealership for then Id rather just get some aftermarket option. Just seeing what my options are! Thanks in advance for any answers/advice.

From what I read if your truck didn't come with it then you are out of luck unless you have the dealer install a head unit with integral maps. I just use Carplay and keep it on one of my map apps.
I think Toyota suggests using ScoutGPS app which works via Bluetooth, I tried it but couldn't get it to work
