NAPA CV question

I was going to pick up a NAPA CV shaft to run while I find time to rebuild my torn boot oem one.
Which one of these is the correct one? And what is anyone's experience with their Limited Lifetime warranty on them? If the boots start to tear at any time do I just bring it back in for a replacement? The only other I've seen recommended is O'Reillly's with their lifetime warranty also.

 

According to the Napa catalog I have at work, the 944052 is the first design and the 944082 is the second design, but they both fit 2005 and up Tacomas. Doesn’t make sense to me. They both measure the same length and have the same splines, so it may just be a Napa thing.

 

Interesting. Do you have any experience with their warranty?

 

My buddy has broken around a dozen napa cvs and has warrantied them no problem for the most part, until they got sick of him bringing them in every other week lol.

 

What about the “indestructible” cv axles?

Pay once and hopefully good for almost anything. But also depends on your use case. If road use then obviously go with $200 axles

 

I work at a Chevrolet parts department and have sold many Napa CV axles over the years. They seem to be very reliable, so I really haven’t had to warranty any. However, Napa takes good care of us when we have warranty issues, but your experience could be different with your local store.

 

My Napa CV's. Although they're lifetime warranty, the fine print says torn boots aren't covered. They've warranties em anyway except for one little fuck that thought he was saving the company by not doing warranty. Wasn't a torn boot, but a snapped shaft. These here I'll warranty, but will only be temporary spares in the future.

 

Then the a.d.d tube breaks in half and you're fawked

 

If I recall correctly when I bought mine the boots were NOT covered. I can’t tell you about the quality. I chose to reuse my OEM axle.

 

I have the PN NCV 944082 on my truck. Prices sure have jumped over the last year though... I paid $109 for mine.

Also note that they use different manufacturers for that PN, so you might get a slightly different product even for the same PN.

 

Yes it would. It would not be a cheap fix by any stretch of the imagination. However, has anyone broke one of those? I ask because it seems like it would be less likely to break the ADD tube unless just being a reckless off-roader and in that case hopefully that person brought a trailer.

Yep, I know a good handful of people that have broken them, some still running stock Cv's. So, rcvs would pretty much guarantee the tube as the weak point.

 

CVJ is garbage for the money they want for em. Sure their boots are good, but the axles are not due to the cheap Chinese replacement parts they use. I almost killed my spotter because one of those CVJ's exploded and threw a huge bearing at his head.

 

Wow, good thing it didn't hit him. It would have been like an old musket civil war injury.

What axles do you recommend?
