My truck has developed a front end creaking noise

The truck is scheduled for a service appointment next week for this issue, however, I'd like to get an opinion of what might be causing this creaking noise.

The video makes the noise sound like a knock, I feel it's more like dry metal parts rubbing against one another. I did notice that the rubber ball joint boot at the top of the wheel mount was leaking a bluish / purple grease and maybe water?

The noise happens only when traveling at speeds right around 20 mph (low speed issue) over the soft neighborhood speed humps. It seems that as soon as the suspension is compressed on the upside side of the speed hump the creaking noise appears.

All stock, no suspension mods, 5,600 miles on the odometer.

Thank you for your help! At least I'll have some knowledge when I head to the dealer next week.

Do a search on here about the front radiator/body mounts. That would be my guess. People are seeing them go bad as early as 1,500 miles. Last week I found 4-5 threads about it. Don’t have the links handy at the moment though.

    Ok, thank you.
I'll take a look at that possibility.

Sounds like it could be a loose swaybar end link as well. That'd be easy to check on your own. Just take a 17mm and see if you can tighten it down any.

Mine ended up being a strut assembly, replaced under warranty.

Mine was the passenger side body mount. Couldn't tell from the "non-video".

My money is on the ball joint even though they shouldn't need replacement yet :anonymous:

Seems I'm not the only one with this problem, I'm going to attempt to replace the front body mount bolts.

I have the same exact sound/issue. I believe it's the front body mounts. I'm going to mention it at my 20k toyota care service. Let me know if your fix resolves the problem!

    Could it be bushings?

I had the same issue. Replaced front body mounts, which were worn but not the cause.

Spray some lubricant in the spring bed, top and bottom where the spring rests in the coil over. Stand on your door jamb and rock the truck to work it in. Be liberal with the lube.

It worked for me, haven't had a problem since.

    Shot ball joint...
Can you take a better pic of the castle nut area of the upper ball joint? Same angle as your video, just zoomed in...
Is that a shiny spot? Balljoint seems to move before the uca does.

Warranty! Why would you attempt it yourself if you are still under warranty?

I am all for working on my own truck, but free parts and free labor always win out!

Just dropped the truck at the local dealer. The tech went for a ride with me, he clearly heard the noise. He then watched the video, and oddly enough the video sounds like a clunk or a pop, however, to the ear, the noise is more of a metal on metal sound. He advised "something ain't right" but what is that something? Lets see how this plays out.

Ask them to take a run with chassis ears on.
