Been piecing together the parts for it. Decided on a slick side upper, and a 11.5" pencil barrel. I'm kinda on the fence with the flash hider, it reminds me of a ghetto pin and weld barrel. Bought the correct 6 hole handguards, skinny A1 pistol grip, and the original 2 position stock made from aluminum. The picture is with the upper on a SBR lower I have.

I ordered a H&R M16A1 lower that arrived Monday, I submitted a form 1 to SBR it, and mailed it off to a machine shop here in FL to be engraved. Ordered a chrome bolt with no forward assist serrations for it tonight.

I was always under the impression that Colt made all the M16's used during Vietnam, found out H&R and GM transmission division also made them, so my lower will have all the correct markings...except the most beautiful extra rock and roll pin above the selector.

This is exactly like the lower I have.

Looks good! I love A1 uppers and CAR style stocks for lightweight guns- needs a USGI 20rnd mag and a canvas sling attached with paracord.

What's absolutely crazy is that you can't even engrave a circle on each side to simulate the third pin as the agency known for their nonsensical and idiotic rules decided that somehow constitutes intent by marking where to drill. You can legally own the machinists drawings for pretty much everything under the sun but engraving two little circles is not OK.

Troy made lowers with the fake pin for a while, not sure what happened to the ones they sold. Someone on ARF.com had a machinist do a fake pin and he "said" he had to surrender it to the ATF for destruction.

I sent my H&R lower off to a FFL/SOT to engrave my info for tax stamp proposes. UPS is dropping it off tomorrow. Submitted my form 1 12-18-23.

I got a 1950 marked GP strap to use as a sling, and some Parapocalypse para cord rated at 900 degrees. I'm gonna just tie a knot for the butt stock. I have a lot of USGI 20 round mags I use on my long barrel 16" AR.

I remember that thread- no idea what actually happened either but I do seem to recall Troy posted up the letter they got. I was planning on having one of mine done just because, sometimes it's good to be a procrastinator. I would think he could have just had it further engraved into something else, like a coverup tattoo but you never know what that groups of douchebags is going to declare from day to day.

Might save you some money next time to check with your local trophy shop/engravers and see if they can engrave it for you- unless something has recently changed (double check, i know a lot has changed recently), as long as you are physically there with the item and you are taking it with you when you leave the premises (so you are technically still in possession of it), they don't have to be a FFL just to engrave it. Just make sure you take a copy of your paperwork with you and that they get the font size and depth correct.

I had my last one done at the trophy shop near me (the guy owns NFA items himself); you just call and schedule to come in as soon as he opens (basically before regular customers start coming in), show him the paperwork so knows it's legally yours and he can confirm exactly what you need engraved and have you double check the spelling, placement, etc., and then just sit there for a few minutes while the machine does it's job. I think he charged me like $10 or $20 on my last one. He's got a cool Racoon City STARS Beretta he did for himself that I'd like to have. I'm thinking about getting him to laser checker a stock for me too; it's one I want checkered but the gun itself isn't worth what a gunsmith would have to charge for their time.

Pretty much finished I guess. I found a few early Colt 20 round mags for it too. Should get them in a few days.

I am looking at getting the H&R A2 clone. Just deciding between the black or gray.

I'm trading a M4 upper for a A2 Saturday. I plan on getting the parts together to make a AR similar to that in the future. I have 5 AR's now, and owned a lot over the years. Never once had a 20" barrel.

I ordered this 609 upper that should be here Monday. I have a 10.5" A1 barrel for it. It's not gonna be clone correct on a SBR DPMS lower, but will look pretty cool with the early CAR stock, and XM177 flash hider.

Got my other A1 put together, and bought a 14.7" barrel for my A2 upper. With the standard A2 flash hider it comes out right at 16". Total waste of a SBR lower. Thinking about having the barrel cut to 13.5" I have a A.R.M.S. #16A carry handle mount coming for it Monday so I can mount my Aimpoint on it.

Very nice, looks like a CAR-15 clone. You take that to the range and you’ll need to call for some tac-air and a kingbee extraction! :)

I think I'm finished playing around with AR's for a while. I had the barrel cut on the A2 to 13". Then decided give my CMMG AR with a dedicated 22LR upper the retro look. This is what it looked like before. I'm still using the same lower, barrel, bolt assembly, and buffer tube. The lower is set up for multi caliber. It's the 2nd one from the top in the second picture. I still have 3 flat top AR's.

My latest build, more like a resto-mod truck gun. Built with spare parts I had laying around.
