Yeah building it for camping. The expedition portal has been of great inspiration and originally sparked me and my fathers interest to get one of these trailers. We look at it as a joint investment, he can pull it with his jeep or me with my taco

Are you going to do a build thread for it? I think you should as it would be awesome to see the progress you all make on it!

    So any updates Tactical Tacoma?

I finally got my M416 last week. Can't wait to mod it. I almost want another one already so I can leave this one stock. lol.

Did you find it weird not being able to see it much in the rear view mirrors?

Yeah it was weird not being able to see it at first. Since my original post we have done a lot of work. I completely removed the tongue and frame from the tub, had it sand blasted and powdercoated and replaced all the nuts and bolts with new zinc ones, replaced all rubber gromets (basically all hardware was replaced) and then reassembled. Then we did a spring over, and then dad put on the same 33's and matching wheels like the ones on his '79 CJ-7 Golden Eagle Jeep, and between those 2 upgrades it raised it like 4", so its easier to see now. Gonna have the tub done soon, dad and I are arguing over the color, I say flat black (powdercoated preferably) and dad wants to paint it to match the jeep (1979 Alpaca Brown Metallic) for car show purposes. My arguement is that we arent building it for car shows, were building it for camping. Heres the pics

Be very very careful with this trailer....!! The army had a ton of accidents in which this trailer was part of the problem...this is why they were pushed out of the inventory....

Thats funny, they seem pretty popular on expeditionportal.com I havent heard of many people having accidents with them as the source.

    Thanks for the warning though

my dad and I got 1 of those when I was in elementary back in Hawaii...they are stout...but after many years of usage, offroading, and hauling tons of equipment (lumbar, scuba gear, hunting gear, bricks, rocks, etc...) the body and frame were rusted out completely...

my '94 Toyota and '72 Bronco were lifted and my dad's Expedition had adjustable air bags so we extended the tongue about 1' and remade the trailer bed out of diamond plated plastic, floorboards were made out of 4x4 plastic wood, and bed rails were stainless steel that we had painted hammer tone black/grey...we also swapped out the stock rims/tires for 33" on 15x12 rims to help disperse the load better; it made a huge difference when using the trailer on long halls...we also have pins on the walls of the trailer to allow us to remove the sides front/back for larger loads/materials...

that will be a nice project and will last you forever guaranteed...

The problem with them was in the Army being towed by military vehicles...and young drivers.

Well I'm 30, dads 58 and neither of us have military vehicles so we should be good. Not to mention the pintle and lunette spin 360 degrees so that helps with the trails

Actually...do you mind sharing with me how you mounted a swivel pintle hitch on the Taco? Any possibility of a pic or 2?

The pintle hook just slides right in the receiver on the taco, the tow eye on the M416 swivels not the pintle hook on the truck.
