Okay, Its time for my first 5000 mile service at the dealership. For my 2017 Tacoma TRD off road.

Do you guys have any suggestions on what I should ask them to do? Or, what they will do?

What will they do? Change the oil and rotate the tires. I always mark the oil filter, and the tires so I know they actually did something. If you are not having any issues then don't ask them to do anything.

I have been hearing something about a transmission update? Just haven't taken time to read it all

And actually, I don't believe they change the oil until the 10000 mile service

I would imagine the 17's have it, but fuck it as if there are any recalls or updates needed for your truck

They don’t change the oil til 10k. 5k is basically check all fluids and rotate tires.

Ah so basically they do nothing, make sure you mark your tires or rims some place.

I don't even go in at my 5K intervals. If tires are wearing alright, fluids are where they need to be then I'm good. I just reset the MM and go at 10K to get my oil changed and tires rotated, but that's me.

I had them fix all the stuff I found wrong under warranty. Also had them grease the u-joints, and re-torque all the u bolts, also and them realign the head lights.

Turn the radio off and roll the windows down. Drive slowly thru an empty parking lot while going from full left to full right. Maybe roll over a speed bump or two allowing suspension to travel. There should be no squeaks.

Drive in a straight line down the street or highway and make sure the steering wheel is dead straight, and not like 3 degrees either way. (Alignment is only covered up to 12K miles)

Look at the seat & seat belts for wear.

Odds are if you don't have any concerns already, you're fine.

I asked them to change my oil at 5k off the schedule, I would have had to pay out of pocket, but my service people are more generous than most and ate the cost because they had my truck from open to close for a basic service.

I am changing the oil at 5000 miles. just makes good sense. Easy to shut off reminder on page 445 of manual. If you can't figure out what fluid levels are, you shouldn't own a vehicle.

I had them use my toyotacare to cover my oil change early, they wrote it up as 10k change requested.

I just push forward to the next one. I’m changing my oil every 5k, as long as it is brought in every 5k, warranty paper trail is kept intact. I can pay next time, and save the last freebie for 20k service. You only get two oil changes in two years, so the manager told me I can use the freebies how I want. They filled out my service booklet in the 5k/6month service slot, its just the use of the freebies in their system.
