I recently bought a 2015 Trd Pro with about 23,000 miles and have noticed that occasionally the radio freezes up and I can't do anything with it.....it wont let me change channels, I can't turn the volume up or down or even turn it off. Most times it "reboots" automatically and then works fine.....but today I had to turn off the truck to get it to reboot. I've had numerous Tacos and I've never had this problem. Obviously I'll make an appointment to take it to the dealer but WTH??!! Does it need to be updated? Is the radio bad? Can someone tell me why this is happening and what I need to do to fix it.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Best fix would probably be to take the 4 bolts out that hold it in. Then pull it gently out and remove the connections on the back. Then in one swift motion throw it as far as you can. Walk inside and go to www.crutchfield.com and order a nice aftermarket one that doesn't do that stupid crap. Sorry you're having issues. I do love my Kenwood though.

There is a software update at dealership and its under 100$ and fixes it. Exact same thing happened on my 2015. Maybe your software is still covered under your warranty.

My truck only has 23,000 miles so is the radio software update covered based on the mileage?

Thanks a lot for the advice.....I just checked the paperwork and the first day in service was 11/23/14......so I have only a couple weeks left on my manufacturers warranty.....I'll call and schedule a dealer visit on Monday!

Call the Toyota warrantee Dept. Just had mine updated at the dealer a month ago. My 2014 is out of warrantee so the dealer said I would have to pay for the update. I found a TSB from Toyota describing this problem of locking up and rebooting. I called the Toyota warrantee dept and they said it something they are covering out of warrantee and to take it to the dealer. When I called the dealer back they said the update is free. I don't have the TSB number or the Toyota warrantee dept number with me, you should be able to Google them.

I'm curious if the rain has had any effect for others. It doesn't make an sense to me but I had the truck in 4 times last winter and it was replaced/updated. Absolutely no issue all summer. I park under cover but the 6 months of rain have started back up. I was out of town last night, so no cover and the damn thing froze up again to the point of shutting down the truck to get it to work. I'm stumped? Dealer replaced it once with the same issue for both so there is no way I'm spending a dime on the POS, which includes gas and time to get to the dealer an hour away. Time for aftermarket but I'm curious if weather could be a factor. Thoughts?

You can also try going to this site and updating the software yourself:
    https://securedp.toyota.com/download-app/getUpdates

The 2015 navigation unit I bought used had the latest update and has performed flawlessly. I have since purchased the OE184 map update and updated the software from the Toyota site.

@Ridgeline001, mine hasn't had the issue again since the update but it's only been a month or so. With the rain started, if it happens again I'll post. It's definitely aftermarket time for me too.

The same shit everyone else has.
My '14 radio in my '11 did this daily until I updated the software. I followed the steps on the link posted above and its been fine since.

If you have the toyota app on your iphone/android phone you will get the update for free. Mine is out of warranty and still updates.

It should be free. I would take my 100 dollars and add it to a few more and get a good stereo system.
