The DMM is an awesome solution, however my vehicle is a 2020 with CarPlay, so I didn't need the phone up in direct view, so I pursued a small variation using some of the DMM parts to put the phone to the bottom right. When using Waze for navigation, the turn list is easily visible but the map itself is on the head unit. In NM, the sun is pretty extreme, and I've had some devices shutdown due to overheating so I also wanted to be able to keep it out of the sun a bit. This location is also not in the way of any console buttons, the airbag, glove box, shifter, or passenger knees.

Finally, I've been using RokForm phone cases for years and have mounts in all of our vehicles (cars/motorcycles) and even bicycles, so I'm pretty invested in their mount 'ecosystem.' They're extremely secure and I'm used to them.

Items Used (in addition to ): Ram Mount 1-Inch Diameter Ball with 1/4-Inch-20 Stud
Ram Mount Composite Short Double Socket Arm for 1-Inch Ball Bases
    RokForm RokLock Car Dash Mount
    RokForm Phone Cases
    10-32 lock nut and washers

    The final product:

I also have the full DMM installed, and the mount is movable to any of the locations on the DMM.

I spent a couples dollar at the local hardware store buying two nylon spacers and a screw that fit between the 1/4-20 RAM mount and the RokLok mount to tie them together. Some careful trimming of the VHB adhesive pad allowed some additional stability between the two components. Then any 1" RAM mount compatible arm works to hold it. I'm pretty happy with it so far. I also purchased a 10-32 lock nut and some washers to secure the spare 1" mount ball to the bottom right of the radio console fascia. The plastic is pretty thick and stable but I am concerned I may want to cut some custom metal pieces to further brace it, similar to the DMM setup. Also, I also used some black heat shrink to cover the steel columns on the ball mounts.

Some pictures of the entire process, and the DMM itself:
