Always use Toyota dealership collision center and make sure they use OEM parts. Don’t go to any other shop that’s recommended by the insurance company or Joe Schmo. This way the parts are legit, and the insurance company pays a premium for the labor rates.

So his truck was totalled but yours wasn't ? It looks like your frame might have been bent and might cause headaches later.

You may want to contact an attorney and get an independent appraisal on the repairs (atty would have a contact).

My coworker's 4Runner was t-boned at a red light by a Sequoia. He had Progressive and instead of going through the other person's insurance, Progressive said they would do the repairs at their shop. He gets the 4Runner back and it drove like crap and the driver's seat was touching the center console. After the appraisal, the frame was still bent and had weak areas that could have killed him in a future accident. He sued his insurance company and settled out of court for an undisclosed amount. He really couldn't tell us, but he purchased a brand new 4Runner TRD Pro. cash

As far as insurance, if you can get USAA, do it. I have been with them for over 25 years and have zero complaints. My daughter and another lady backed into each other in the Target parking lot. No damage to my old 4Runner, but $3500 in damage to the ladies Highlander. She told her insurance, Geico, that my daughter ran into her. Fortunately, my daughter took pictures and had a statement from the employees who saw the accident. I called USAA and they said don't worry it's 50/50, they will handle it and no increase to our premiums. They told us not to talk to Geico and they will take care of everything.

Sorry to hear/see this inicident (actually, 2 separate ones in this thread.)

In both cases it looks as though having a heavy-duty plate bumper installed -- one that sticks out rearwards as far as reasonably possible -- might have significantly reduced damage to the truck beds & cabs. (That said -- not sure if it would have made a worse outcome for the occupants. Maybe a plate bumper, being comparatively stiff & unyielding, would have caused higher crash G-forces for the occupants. I.e. the head-rest & seat-back ram into the occupant at both higher speeds and with faster rise times = higher impact force = more potential for injury.)

Wow, I am going to get quotes from other insurers - seems like Geico are shysters. Fine until you need them.

Good to hear the op is now ok, but anytime you get in an accident when the other guy hasn't any insurance it ends up a chit show. Doesn't matter who's insurance you have, your insurance company get's very touchy about having to cover all the costs. My brother went though same problem a few years ago when an uninsured drive totaled his rave4. He was lucky to get only a few cuts on his arms. It took 2 years for his insurance to finally settle after he sued them, and the party that hit him.

I'm always surprised when people talk about dealing with the other party's insurance company. I've never done that no matter who was at fault. That's why I have insurance. My insurance deals with their insurance.

Had an accident last week. Truck is at body shop, appraisal done, work approved, rental car, parts ordered, should have it done next week.

Eventually they get theres. The guy that hit my brother had a history of being uninsured, yet still able to obtain a drivers license, and get a vehicle registered by canceling his insurance once they registered his vehicle. Sometimes one needs to get a tough lawyer that will work with one of the state's prosecutor's to put the dirt bag out of business, and behind bars. Our state now has a way of getting uninsured motorists off the road by getting notified as soon as their insurance policy is canceled. The cops are given their name, and registration plate go after.

And do the cops actually utilize this info? Seems that law enforcement has more important things to occupy their time with than uninsured motorists these days.

Do your homework, but based on personal experience and friends/family who work in the insurance industry, look at USAA and Amica.
Double check the insurance companies with a cute gecko and an annoying lady named Flo.

This is exactly why I use an insurance agency that deals with many companies. I never go for the cheapest, but rather the best company to deal with should there be a claim based on the agencies experiences.

Do not forgot the 12” lift with double smoke stack exhausts, monster energy drink sticker, and testicles dangling from the tow hitch.

the collision center used a piece of equipment that measures that. forgot the name of it but it uses the laser to measure how straight it is or if bent how much or in tolerance of the manufacturer specifications.
it was actually the bed that was bent and contorted
