Multiple issues after replacing front grille

Hey everyone, really hoping someone can answer this for me...

I replaced my grille with a TRD pro style grille not a week after buying my brand new 2022 4x4 TRD Off-Road Taco. I did research on what to buy and how to install but unfortunately I am having a pre-collision/TSS warning and more. I was extremely careful when dealing with the sensor itself. Anyways...

The following warning/dash lights cycle through my middle screen constantly:
    - Pre-Collision System Malfunction
    - Front Camera Unavailable
    - Headlight System Malfunction
    - Lane Departure Alert Malfunction

After taking it to the dealership I got it from they said they couldn't do anything about it. Took it to a different dealership, they charged me $160 and said they fixed something but no change (all warnings still active). I took it to a 3rd dealership and they said the TSS sensor itself needs to be replaced along with the front camera ($2,000).

I saw some people had success with using shims to adjust the angle of the sensor but this does not explain the other 3 issues. Please help, I would love to have a normal dash and be able to see my current speed etc.

    Thank you!

    **UPDATE**

Bought an OEM grille off FB and brought it to a new dealership. They replaced the front camera and calibrated everything under warranty! Most likely had a residual charge in the wiring that messed up the camera because I only waited 30 minutes after disconnecting the negative terminal on the battery before disconnecting the grille sensor.

Any poor soul experiencing the same issues, my condolences but this is the way to go about it. If not under warranty the camera replacement was about $1800.

Have you tried going back to the original grill to see if the warnings still popup. If the old grill fixes the warnings at least you would know you didn't actually need a new sensor.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Did you disconnect the ground (negative) cable from the battery well before you started disconnecting & reconnecting any wiring?

There is (was?) a TSB on the front "garnish" for not sealing properly, gets water inside, fubars the sensor. They will replace the assembly for free as it's a service bulletin plus it comes with, I *think* an ECU code update too. May be limited to only certain years or VINs though.

I'd put the original grill back on and if the errors still show up, go to a *different* dealer and tell their service department you want the TSB warranty work done. They will replace the sensor, reseal it, and flash your ECU all for free.

The above is all from memory so YMMV. Caveat Emptor. Also I found this thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/this-is-how-i-fixed-my-tss-issue-after-trd-grill-swap.615424/

Thank you for your quick replies.

Unfortunately I thought of putting the oem grille back on after I threw it out so that is not an option.

I did disconnect the negative terminal for the install.

Really wish I kept the oem grill if that TSB applies!

Unplug the sensor, add the washers/spacers to the garnish. There is a few threads and I think some videos. Then reconnect everything and it should clear up. Lots of people have done this with no issues on the first install and some who get the issues. Keep the grill, google the issues and you should be good to go. I'm sure someone on here will give you a grill cheap!

You might try looking on Craigslist or Facebook market place for an oem grill. You might find one cheap. When I installed my oem style grill, I had zero issues. But situations like yours happens from time to time. Good luck getting this corrected.

Why would you throw away the oem grille?

I went all oem grille and tss sensor cover on my 2020 sport and never had an issue and also I’m lifted.

Also important to disconnect the battery before doing anything

    1. Did all the issues mentioned occur after only swapping the grille?
    2. Did you verify all connections?
    3. Did you verify all connections are properly seated?
    4. Did you snag any wires during the removal/install?
    5. Did you verify the fuses, and not just perform a visual verification?
Regarding disconnecting the battery, I don't think that's an issue. The majority of the fuses I found are on the ignition and accessory side of things, with the exception of the hazard fuse being on battery power, but I don't see where disconnecting anything on the grille would be powered while the truck was off. Granted, I could have missed something.

I was expecting you to chime in, but didn't expect this quick, lol.

I see your argument about disconnecting harnesses that may have juice even if the specific few wires you are interested within the said harness don't, but I don't believe that is the case this time around (assuming only the wires to/from the grille assembly were disconnected and were not disconnected further up the chain). You're certainly welcome to prove me wrong, as it would be good for everyone to know.

Now, to be clear, I'm not disagreeing with those who say do it to be on the safe side, especially if they don't have access to the EWD or know how to read it.

Can't believe you just threw it out. Lots of people would pay for those. Some people want to get a bit more of an aggressive look but find the pro grille to be over done.

Well to be fair, I tossed my factory OR grill as I pretty much destroyed the the damn thing removing it from the bezel. I probably broke at least half of those damn tabs removing it. Once I confirmed no issues with the new Pro style grill, I tossed mine too.

What's the fascination with Pro Grills? Personally, not my taste. I'm happy with the cheese grater look!!

This part is so important, and was drilled into me as a young student in electronics class when on our final we all had teams working on a timed test to troubleshoot a radio because it wouldn't work. I was lucky since my team had an easy problem, but one team couldn't figure theirs out: everything seemed perfect, all components "tested" fine, and the inline fuse was pulled multiple times and stared at closely but the little wire was touching both electrodes. They couldn't figure it out. At the end the instructor chastised them for not actually testing the fuse because he had put clear fingernail polish on the ends to prevent a connection...ya gotta gotta gotta test yer sh!t!

I left the OEM grille at my parents house and they threw it out without warning.

All the issues popped up after replacing the grille. Not sure what you mean by verify all connections. I’ve unplugged and replugged the sensor and visually checked all fuses multiple times to no avail (I would hope the dealerships would have been able to address that if it were the problem).

I will try adding washers to the sensor mount and see if that does anything.

One possibly important thing to note, I also have raptor lights that are using a fuse tap as a signal source. I believe I used the daytime running light fuse but will double check.

In summary, the only wiring I messed with is disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery, unplugging the sensor wiring harness from the sensor itself, and installing the fuse tap.

Thank you all for your input, I really appreciate it!

I know it may sound stupid but did you connect the harnesses back together for the sensor and stuff?
