I am looking to upgrade my muffler bearings and I need some advise from y'all. I am looking at OEM but there are several aftermarket versions out there now. I am not sure if I want sealed or greaseable bearings. The cost difference is substantial. I realize greaseable are less expensive but is it better to have the shop service them or can I just do it myself? How often do you grease your muffler bearings? I was looking for an muffler bearing access mod. Or does everyone just drop their muffler and tailpipe? If I go aftermarket muffler bearings, are the titanium ones worth the money? I found some nylon and UHMW ones on Ebay but they are made in China and I have quality concerns.

Any advise would be much appreciated.

My Ukrainian made ceramic muffler bearings are holding up very well.

They use graphite powder as a lubricant. I lube every 5K miles.

Oh there will be some mods all right
I've been told you can take apart certain fidget spinners and use the bearings from those

I went to the dealership and they said that they should be the ones to install it and maintain it to ensure the exhaust system doesn't malfunction. Worst case scenario they've seen was someone installed it in reverse causing the exhaust to suck in air instead of pushing it out.

Here is a trick that auto shops DONT want you to know. If you just crank the vehicle in a poorly ventilated area such as a garage, roll down the windows and rev the engine at 3500 RPM for a few hours, your intake will reabsorb the exhaust fumes and and relubricate those pesky bearings.

Edit: don't be a dumbass....this is not a recommended maintenance action.

OP, what gen are you? My 2nd Gen is not a tapered roller bearing as shown in the article, but a needle bearing. :help:

Yeah, that's why they went to a tapered bearing on more recent models. No risk of reverse installation that way.

Make sure to get the ones that go inside the exhaust manifold (high temp rated). Much better HP increase than the old style.

Definitely greaseable. Be sure to get the bicarbon steel though, because those can take organic lubricants. Saves me tens of dollars each time!

This is dumb. Everyone knows there's no such thing as quality aftermarket muffler bearings. OEM Denso muffler bearings ONLY go into my truck.

Just cut the dang ol muffler off bearings and all goto pep boys get a old school glass pack called a purple horny. It’ll sound like a muscle car and has sealed bearings for a fraction of a total system.
