so ive looked around and havent seen anyone talking about advantages/disadvantages of mudding with with the tiptronic. i was told autos suck for mudding because they are always trying to shift around and you cant keep it at a steady rpm. well with my tiptronic i can keep it in 1st or 2nd or whatever gear i choose, wont get mud in the gears from shifting like with a manual, and can engine brake while going down embankments and crawling without using a clutch....
is the auto tiptronic not the best setup for 4x4ing? and if not then why not? i wanna keep this truck...i just need it to be a decent 4x4 machine.
    thanks!

My '14 camry has tiptronic, lower left position. bump fwd to upshift and bump back for down shift. also has paddle shifters which are a novelty IMO. I have a '15 tacoma v6 auto, and does not have the tiptronic

    Just a 5 speed auto.

D is overdrive and so on for each gear.

okay that makes sense. so...I just have an auto that I can put in any gear I want. I'm gonna call it super auto for now. bottom line....is this a shitty setup for mudding or because of the fact I can control which gear it's in without using a clutch...is this a good setup

I've never had an auto that you couldn't.

Not saying they're isnt one I've just never had one.

FYI. If you are in 4 from a dead stop it will still shift 1-2-3-4 and stay there same for every other gear.

forget everything I said already. is the taco 5 speed auto, which can be put in any gear I choose, a good transmission for mudding. due to the fact. it won't be trying to find the right gear cause I'll have it in 2nd or 3rd. ???

Since everyone here is being quite sarcastic I'll answer for you. It works just fine in D even. You can manually select the highest gear it'll shift to but not manually shift gears like a tiptronic if that makes sense. Just turn off traction control and maintain throttle with the gas.

If this isn't proof idk what is.

here's how I believe it goes

when you put it in 4 it will use 1-2-3-4
when you put it in 3 it will use 1-2-3
when you put it in 2 it will use 1-2
when you put it in L it will stay in 1

whether that's good for mudding or not I don't know.... locate your nearest mud puddle and let us know how it goes!

Yes, you will have an easier time with your lower gear selections than someone with just 1,2 ,d and r. The fact that you can stay in 2nd or 3rd will help keep the rpm up and tires going. Without the auto fishing for a higher gear.
    Good luck.
And R. Lobster is just a dick. Dont take offense.
