I plan to go with a 3inch lift and some 305/70/16 Nitto Mud Grapplers on my 2012 Tacoma Pre-runner. Would I have any problems running that wide of a tire on the stock wheels? Also I do tow a trailer here and there.

So LT tires already have poor/limited edge wear, a 305 on a stock 16" will roll a bit on the edges, it will work, but not ideal. You want an 8" rim or bigger for 305, stock 16" is 7" I believe.

285 is a much better choice for stock rims.

Also with towing you want to make sure you don't lift the front too much, or make sure the rear is beefy. The more you lift the front, the more it decompresses when towing, so you'll have super light steering, especially with spacer/block lifts.

Next, every tire size you go up, the gearing is lost, so towing gets harder. True 33's are tempting, but a simple 32" will tow better.

Most people who run MTs on their daily regret their decision.

    They're not fun on pavement.

If I was towing (and I do tow cross country) I'd stick with the AT class. Most of those are much more highway friendly, they're more capable than what a prerunner needs (coming someone who off roads their 2wd), they last longer, and they still look cool.

And now for personal opinion: MTs don't look cool on a daily driver. They look poser. Everyone is entitled to their mistake opinion though, so do as you please.

@Tucknasty2012 the 305/70R16 requires a 7.5 to 10.5 wide wheel. Factory width is 7. It would be recommended to replace the wheels.
