I just got my 2015 Tacoma TRD back from Downeast Off Road in Wilson, NC after having 2.5" lift w/Bilsteins 5100's and AAL and Toyo M/T's 285/70R17. However they had to remove the front mud flaps as the tires were rubbing them pretty bad and they said they couldn't trim them. How many of you guys have just the rear mud flaps after taking the front ones off due to rubbing? I can't make my mind up if I want to remove the rear ones or leave them on. I hated that they had to take the front ones off as I wanted them all.

I don't know if this is much help but my 2wd 5 lug tacoma came from the factory with rear mud flaps only. I dont think it looks bad with just the rears on and plus the rear mudflaps keep rocks from flying off the tread and cracking windsheilds/chipping hoods.

All four of my mud flaps went into the trash can within 20 minutes after I first drove it into my driveway.

The flaps protect your truck from rocks and other items from being thrown up onto your body and paint,so I left mine on.Nothing worse than a ton of road rash on your doors and rear fenders.

Mine weren't rubbing the tires. I hated how long they were and the fact they scraped when hitting a dip in the road. I considered trimming them in length, but ended up just removing them all together. Here is mine with front flaps removed, 2" lift and 32" (255/75/17) tires.

I trimmed mine down. Cut the bottom off of one and used it as a template to make cuts.

I removed the fronts due to some tire rubbing, then on an offroad excursion, I ripped one of the rears off so I'm "flapless" now. We don't have gravel roads around where I live so I'm not experiencing paint chipping.

I don't have any on my truck. Just has to be washed more often from mud and dirt. I have yet to see any rocks fling up and do damage (knock on wood)

One of my front mud flaps broke off within a couple hours of owning the truck. Took the other one off and it's been 80k miles with no damage up front.

Not sure what the laws are where you live but in AZ we're required to have rear mudflaps if it's a truck and the stock vehicle height has been altered (ie lifting). I am stock though and I like the look with no flaps, plus they always get hung up when 4x4ing.

I was wondering if I were to trim the area where the tires rub the front flaps if that would compromise the integrity of the plastic? I'm going to go and get a cutting bit for my Dremel and see if I can cut that area out of the flap.

If the factory flaps were flexible that would be nice. I think mudflaps are pretty cool myself, but they have to flex. Toyota factory flaps are stiff. Odd the 4th Gen 4runners have flexible flaps, 5th Gen 4Runners have the non-bending flaps like the Tacoma. How is it so difficult to put a flexible flap on a vehicle marketed as offroad?

I never was a fan of the mud flaps. Started a thread about it and results about 50/50. Talked to a few people I knew who removed. They said no issues so I decided to remove. So far no issues. I like the way it looks better. Tons of discussion on this and majority of trucks don’t have them.

Well mine didn’t go in the trash can but, they did come off in about 20 minutes after I bought it new. That was 65,000 miles ago, and I Damn sure don’t have any regrets! I can’t stand the way they look!

I just removed my front mudflaps after realizing they were both cracked and causing a loud tapping sound inside the truck cab. I'm torn now though because even though I've got new flaps on order, I've been driving for the last few days without flaps and it doesn't seem like a huge deal. I also wasn't a fan of how the truck looked without the front mudflaps at first, but over the last couple of days I've come to like the way it looks. I'm thinking about just leaving the front flapless. I don't really offroad, so I'm not worried about rocks on the paint so much. Anyone had bad luck with rocks because they took their front flaps off?
