Looking to get peoples input on the Platinum MPP plan offered by dealerships when purchasing a new 2021 Tacoma. I believe I got 5 years, 60k miles (could have been 6 years, 70k miles...don’t remember right offhand) but I’m wondering if anyone has any first hand experience of it coming in handy.

Has anyone who had it actually used it? What was covered when you used it? Was any claim denied? Etc.

I believe I paid a little over $1000 but less than $1100 for it, so in all honesty, $200 a year isn’t bad for peace of mind, but figured I’d see if anyone had any trouble actually using it before deciding if I want to keep it, or cancel it.

    Any info would be great!

Isn't your car already covered by manufacturer's 3/36K and 5/60K?

From what I remember, it’s suppose to cover additional parts that may go bad due to wear and tear (things not a manufacturer defect). Honestly, that’s what I’m hoping to figure out here; is it really adding any value.

The finance guy used the example “if an animal gets into your engine bay and chews up the wiring, it’s covered”. Basically said anything that could go wrong is covered so that I won’t have to put it on insurance.

Funny thing is, like 6 months before I bought the truck, a rat got into my wife’s engine bay and screwed up all kinds of stuff. Went on insurance with a $500 deductible. Lol.

So you paid $1000+ but don't know what for?

So do you have any actual input on the question?

I could bust out the fine print, but I’m looking for anyone with personal experience of needing to use the warranty and their thoughts on it.

If you sleep better and the kids don’t have to skip meals to pay for the warranty go for it. Me, I did not get the extended warranty although they keep telling me this is my last chance.

Haha! I hear ya. That’s kind of how I feel. It’s an extra form of insurance; just not sure if anyone has tried to use it an had issues....or been successful (and what for). I saw some reviews on the inter webs...mostly bad...but 95% of people who leave reviews only do it when something is negative.

    I appreciate your input though!

My input is that it sounds like you paid for basically nothing. Brakes won't need service unless you drive 20k miles a year, other wear parts shouldn't need service/replacement unless there is a potential warranty issue until well after the plan period is expired. Maybe oil changes?

You could read the fine print on the $1000 you spent or ask strangers on the internet for their opinions on what you paid for in case any of them have done the same... Seems like an easy decision to make.

Sweet! Thanks for the info! I’ll check out that thread now. I’d get like 95% of my money back if I cancelled the MPP, so I’m trying to figure it out now versus waiting until I only get half back.

    Much appreciated!

Thanks for the first paragraph. Lol. I skimmed through the fine print last night; honestly doesn’t really give too many specifics. I’m more of a “real world scenario” guy; which is why I was looking for others input who have actually used the warranty.

I may end up giving the company a call and asking for further documentation on what is covered, and under what circumstances.

    I appreciate your insight though.

I have 0 experience with this company but shockingly I think the finance guy was blowing smoke up your ass. No where does it say they will cover damage from an animal. To me it reads just like the Toyota extended warranty except from a third party that the dealer made a nice profit on selling to you.

    https://www.mpp.com/products/platinum-coverage.htm

"Nationwide Claims Assistance -If you sustain a mechanical failure, MPP will provide immediate claims authorization for covered repairs. Payment will be made immediately to your dealer or any authorized ASE certified repair facility."

Thanks. Yeah, I know these warranties are typically a ton of profit for them so they push them hard. Thanks for the link. I’m gonna reach out to the company and see what additional documentation they can provide.

If what they provide doesn’t seem (actually list what’s covered under what scenarios) I’m gonna cancel it. I’ll get 95% of it back.

Thanks again for your input. It’s much appreciated. :)

Edit: I also read through the TacomaWorld link you sent earlier. The Toyota one is the way to go for sure. If I’m understanding that right, say I got the 7 yr one, it would basically cover an additional 4 years outside of my normal factory warranty? Does that sound correct?

Your car comes with the 3/36 bumper to bumper and 5/60 powertrain. Whatever extended one from Toyota you pick will extend the bumper to bumper warranty (EG bumper to bumper to 7/100).

Personally I'd cancel the MPP but be ready for a fight. I'm sure they're going to make it PITA to cancel it.

Recently cancelled my MPP policy in favor of the Toyota Financial plan. I spoke with the financial officer at "my" dealership. He was very forthcoming with information. He revealed they were owned by Warren Buffet, all Buffet owned dealerships were compelled to offer the MPP plan in lieu of Toyota Financial.

My '18 Sport was approaching 3 years since purchase and I'd decided to keep it until the wheels fall off. I proceeded to research MPP. The BBB report was somewhat negative, particularly relating to recovering fees following cancellation. MPP's site gave me a circular procedure, never allowing me to directly file for cancellation. This was not reassuring. I described my frustration with the gentleman at the dealership, he was obliging enough to contact MPP directly through dealership channels. My refund was received within a week.

He was very interested in the quote for the Toyota 10 yr/120k mile from Wolverine Toyota in Michigan (at approx. 1/2 the stated Toyota cost) and indicated he would do the same for his Tundra. There is contact information for Wolverine in a frequently updated TW thread with costs for various plans from Toyota are Financial listed.

On various vehicles this makes my 4th extended warranty, I've broken even.

Thanks for this! I ended up canceling my plan as well. Hopefully I receive the refund within a reasonable amount of time.

I plan on keeping my truck for quite a while as well, so when I start approaching 3yrs I’ll look into the Toyota warranty.

I saw the thread you were talking about and will definitely reach out to Wolverine Toyota when that time comes. Seems like they’re giving the best pricing on it.

Thanks again! I appreciate the personal experience backstory!
