Ok then go back to stock size or slow down if you want better mileage.

What else do you have on or in your truck? Are you running stock suspension? Any armor, sliders, toolbox or miscellaneous crap to add weight?

Are you running cruise control at 75mph? CC might save your foot but it doesnt save gas.

Then start calculating manually to get the true mpg because your odometer and truck computers are off if you didnt get a recalibration.

I want to die in my sleep like grandpa did. Not like the passengers in his car, screaming to their death! :hattip:

255/85/16 with a 3 inch lift getting roughly 19.5-20 mpg when i baby it. I live in a decently hilly area but most of my commute is 50 mph no stops. Highway i can squeeze out 19mpg if i keep it around 70

I’m lucky to see 16.5 but I’m going to take a trip after my oil change and see if I can get 19 doing 70.

I get around 16.5 when they switch to winter fuel mix. That plus letting the car warm up in the winter crushes my MPGs. you really need to baby it to get those numbers though, I rarely bring the RPMs past 2500. Its absolutely painful to drive this way but its what you gotta do to save those benjamins.

I run 235/85R16 ST MAXX, so not quite as wide/tall as yours. Still get 18-20mpg. I downloaded a GPS speedometer app that has a built in trip. Ran several trips to figure out shown speed vs actual, shown distance vs actual. Got the average percentage difference, and now calculate everything off of that.

Everything I did was/is free and is a good place to start. I also drive a MT. Not trying to start another flame war, but non-regeared ATs are known for hating taller tires and mods. If you read through the 4.88 thread, most AT owners report an increase in MPG after the re-gearing because the transmission behaves itself so much better.

    Just my .02

I've been buying tires since 1974. Never seen a tires weight have any effect on fuel mileage. Rolling resistance hurts fuel mileage and that is a combination of several factors. The tires air pressure, tread pattern, overall height, and width will effect rolling resistance. A lot of guys buy oversize E rated tires with aggressive tread patterns and lose 2-3 mpg. They blame it on the weight. It is the tread and wider width often combined with lower air pressure to help smooth out the ride that is the difference.

But the single greatest difference is speed and driving style. I've put 190,000 miles on my Tacoma and just put the 4th set of tires on it, 5 counting the ones from the factory. I've run heavy E rated tires, lightweight P series tires, skinny tires, and moderately wide tires One set of replacement tires were the stock size, one narrower, 2 others were 1" taller and wider.

Fuel mileage has never varied. For my normal everyday driving I'm in the 16-17 mpg range, If I choose to drive aggressively 13-14 mpg. On road trips keeping speeds under 70 I'll get 19-20 mpg. If I try to drive over 70 fuel mileage drops to 14-16 mpg.

You aren't wrong when it comes to stock(ish) tire sizes, but when it comes to over sized m/t tires the weight can vary up 20lbs per tire depending on the brand, and that can absolutely effect mpg

2016, 2017, 2018 I'm 99% sure are the same. There's not a high chance thay changed the connectors on the back of the cluster. It's an online connector so there's not much to it.
