    LOL. K.

Maybe I should have said, "If you are going to buy something that is likely out of your comfort zone, don't bitch about it after the fact."

My point is the test has everything to do with efficiency (that is what it is measuring!) and the EPA states 55 mph is the general most efficient travel speed. Of course the tests are not done at 55 mph. here is a 2017 Tacoma Off Road being run in 2WD test results:

The tests are complicated, but they are testing for efficiency and to do so at 80 mph or 20 mph or redlining it or lugging it down is not real world. 55 mph average is real world.

I don't know if you have done it, but I drive a lot on 200-300 mile trips on interstate. I always like to see what my average speed is and there is a handy little screen in my truck that makes it easy. Almost always, it is somewhere between 58 and 62 mph for me. I could have sworn I never go below 70 mph and mostly go 73-74 mph but I am wrong. Why? Gotta go from gas station to interstate at 35 mph. Gotta wait at that stoplight. Gotta slow down and speed up for that toll and on and on. Anyway, I go a bit faster than average of 55 mph, but not much. And, guess what.... I get just about what is advertised for mpg. Who would have thunk it lol. In order to get that average of 62 mph for me, I have to damn near go 80 the whole way on the interstate!

This is why Jimmy Carter dropped the nations speed limits to 55 . Problem is the merican people need a mean looking Machobeast to drive at high speeds .I am sure the Hilux by frontend design , like the Honda truck thing , would get better mileage here with the same drivetrain above 65 mph. I for one would still be driving my 87 C30 4x4 if it could get 17 mpg at 65 mph . The trouble was it got 9 mpg empty at 65 mph and 9 mpg towing a boat loaded down with gear at 65. I miss that truck !

Lets say you're getting 18mpg combined with a 16.7 tank. That's 300.6 miles out of a tank. Then lets say after bigger tires and armor, you're now at 15mpg. That's only 250mpg per tank. 50 miles is 5 round trips to work for me, or the difference in stopping early for gas or trucking onto the next destination on a road trip.

It's not the money to me, as gas prices fluctuate, it's how far you can go on a single tank.

Or we could just get rid of the EPA since global warming isn't real and MPGs would go up.
