Hello, I am very curious about the 2022 Toyota Tacoma and im Thinking about buying one. The only issue I have about it is that the MPG is rated for 20 city 24 highway. But some people say its 18 city and 20 highway. I have a 2002 Ford powerstroke diesel and get the same 18-20 MPG and I can do way more towing and traveling with the Ford. So im coming to you guys wondering what the true MPG is in the 2022 Tacoma in the 6 speed manual Transmission. Thanks.

It's going to be the same on a 2022 as any other year. I would be shocked if anyone actually achieves 24 mpg. Maybe if they're only going 55 mph with the wind at their back.

My 2021 came with some load E 265/70R17 tires (31.6") and I have not seen above 18 on my absolute best day going 70. My lifetime average is like 15.4. There is a decent amount of city in there and I don't baby it. But my highway mileage is still pretty damn bad. I got a tune (OTT) and it didn't improve nor get worse. I am hoping ditching the heavy tires for slightly smaller and much lighter will help pick up a few mpg, but I'm not counting on it.

Even with the mpg where it is, I would only consider the manual truck for my uses. It's just more fun to drive in virtually all scenarios unless you get tired of a clutch in traffic.

Also from the factory these trucks feel like pigs to drive. The stock ECU tune feels sluggish, the clutch accumulator numbs clutch feel and makes it hard to operate smoothly, and the gear spacing is a bit awkward at times, especially reverse. Getting a tune, doing the accumulator delete/hack, and doing the 2LOW mod really helps make the truck much better to drive.

    Keep the Ford.

No truck, and certainly not a Tacoma, is the vehicle to buy if MPG is the overall goal. Of course, if there is a need for a truck, some get better MPG than others, but the Tacoma is nothing stellar.

Not to mention, a Tacoma is not the vehicle to buy if heavy towing is needed.

Alright Thank you. I was only looking at the Tacoma in a manual for a cheaper light duty truck to pull my quad around and have a fun daily that has good MPG. Thank you.

Not sure where you seen 20 city and 24 highway. I believe manual Tacoma is rated for 17 city and 21 highway. I can get better than that though and I do carry extra weight and run E load 33s.

Close to 5 years of daily city driving. I get 14.90 litres per 100kms ( 15.78mpg ) life time. On a highway trip I have had a best of 9.9 l/100kms (23.76mpg). I drive it for fun, not fuel economy. These are stock vehicle figures... my lift and small tire size increase hasn't changed these figures much.

My truck is completely stock, I drive with a pretty light foot.
Speed really hurts the mileage on these trucks.

On secondary roads up to about 60 mph I can get up in the 25+ mpg zone regularly.
On the highway, cruise at 70 I will usually see about 21, I have never had a highway trip lower than 20 mpg but my personal top speed is only about 72 mph.

To me speeding and a bright orange truck are a bad combination. ;);)

I'm pretty stock, i drive about 90% city, with no lead foot (with exceptions occasionally). On 87 i get about 16-17.5. Right now with 93 im getting 18.4 currently (but that includes about 25 miles of highway driving at 80-85mph)

Welcome. If MPG is one of your top 3 attributes then I'd recommend you strongly reconsider joining the Taco family. If you add aftermarket armor and larger/heavier tires those published MPG numbers take a hit. I personally am hoping the 4th gen Tacoma adds a turbo inline 4 that'll increase our torque down low while supplying a solid 23/24 mpg on the highway.

    14-18 is realistic.

Get a Maverick if you want a MPG truck.

Stock truck, 24MPG is not likely unless you are running non ethanol fuel on the highway. More realistic is 18-19 in winter and 20-21 in summer. That is my experience anyway. Overall costs, a Tacoma is going to be cheaper than that Ford for sure.
