so going from standard sr5 tires to stock trd tires the size difference is basically 1 inch difference. So
245 75 r16 vs 265 70 r16...who has done it? How many mpg can expect to loose with just going with the stock trd offroad tire compared to my stock tire?

I went from stock Goodyears (265-70/16) to 265-75/16 KO2s and lost a little over 1mpg, but the increase in off road traction was worth it.

Tire size is only one part of it. You could switch to the exact same size of a different tire and lose 1-2mpg.

Generally speaking: Bigger sizes, heavier tires, higher load ratings, and more aggressive M/T style tread patterns all contribute to decreased gas mileage.

As mentioned it will depend on the weight of the tire, tread, and compound and not just tire size. Giving you an estimate is nearly impossible.

just by leaving your wife home will make up for any loss of mpg from going up one tire size.

I went from the stock sr5 wheels and tires (245/75/16 destination le, I believe) to 265/70/17 ko2 in C rating and have lost 2+ mpg.

Just switched from the stock sr5 rims & tires to off road rims and tires. Do the same drive everyday and I was getting 23.0 now I get 22.3 haha. DF40D16F-8E15-4978-B77A-B8EB92CA8C28.jpg

I went from 245/75-16 tires to 265/65-17. Their about the same height, but around an inch wider. I lost 1 to 1.5 MPG.

Surprising feedback, I went from 265/70/16 to 265/75/16 and lost 1.5mpg city... gained most of it back by airing the tires up alot more than the tire shop put them at (had them at 35psi in an 80psi tire... I went to 50psi) and put a drop in dry flow filter and a free flow dynomax ultra
muffler.... at the end of the day I was about even with stock.. maybe down .5mpg here and there.

As mentioned there are plenty of things that will impact your mpg, including tire compound, tread, weight, width, rolling resistance, . . .

But, Also remember that a different rolling circumference tire will alter your odometer reading, and impact your mpg calculation independent of weather your actual mpg is changed.

Did you account for the 4% offset for your odometer? You def lost some MPGs with the KO2s, but it isn't QUITE as bad as it looks. That said, my swap from 265/70/16 mild ATs to 265/75/16 LT ST Maxx tires was about 2-3 mpg hit. Mainly due to the 16 pound increase per tire, plus much bigger treads.

You are absolutely correct and yes, I have been using the correction in my calculations. Good point that I forgot to mention.

The loss in mpg is a bit overstated also. Math doesn't lie. Take for example changingfrom 245/75 16 to 265/75 16. Your computer measures the number of rotations of the wheel to calculate distance. Changing that route is roughly a 2% change in circumference. That's a 2% increase in the distance your truck reads as being one mile. You are actually getting 2% better than what the computer says. That math holds true to everything your truck measures as a mile. You are also going 2% faster than the Speedo says. And your odometer is reading 2% less than actual. Not saying it doesn't change at all. We know tread changes friction and weight changes rolling resistance. But 2% calculation error should be subtracted from the difference you think you are getting

Thank you. This is how I always feel about these questions. Just go buy a small car with a 4cyl engine. Problem solved.
