Ok so I'm purchasing a pool table this weekend and I'm looking for advice on how to transport it. I will be hauling it with my RC tacoma and a 5x10 open trailer.

    The table somewhat resembes this:

It is a 6.5' bar style coin operated pool table that from Vally MFG & Sales Corp. somwhere in the 60s-70s. Its in great shape.

Anyway, this thig is a beast. I plan to remove the slate, and the legs to have three (or 4 if you count the two legs) portions to move. Now, I need advice on how to transport the Slate. I'm traveling on mostly rural roads about 50 miles total. Has anyone had experence moving slate before? Can you lay it down? Must you stand it up?

I plan to have 4 guys and two sets of shoulder harness moving straps.

    Any advice would be appreciated!!

Beer and pizza is a nice motivator for strong backs.

Yup! Finds some friends of make some new ones. Bring the snacks and the straps and save yourself the rental of a trailer, unless of course you already own one.

If it were me, and the situation allowed for it?

Check the legs and see if it has post legs. If it does, what is the diameter? Then get the beefiest stem casters you can find and swap them for the feet. Roll the whole thing into the open trailer.

Or use flat furniture dollies at each corner. I am not a pool table mover.

Thanks for the replies guys, all good ideas..BUT. The problem is that it is coming out of a basement in a "tri-level" house so its like a half flight of stairs to get out. It will have to stay im pieces for it to hit its "final" resting place in my basement (another half flight of stairs).

Considered hiring a guy but lets be honest its going to be upwards of $200 and that half the price of the table.

Might be easier just to move the entire house.

You shouldn’t take the slate out of a bar table. Having owned several pool tables of various sizes a bar table is a single piece. You will break the slate if you try to take it out.

A bar table has the slate locked in really well. You just turn the table on its side and slide it. Once you get outside/up stairs put it on furniture dollies. Put a carpet runner down if your stairs aren’t carpeted.

    My latest table.

Roughly about 600-800 pounds. They are build very well though so as long as you don’t drop it it will be fine.

Pool movers have a special dolly that bar tables slot into sideways. You’ll be hard pressed to find one that will deal with more than 3 stairs though.

honestly its starting to sound like an easy way to get crushed to death. You've moved these down stairs before?

They slide pretty well without damaging them?

I have never moved one down more than a few entry steps. You’re going to do some drywall damage I would imagine.

I likely needs new cloth as well. Have a pro move it and put cloth on it at the same time. Win win.

The felt looks like its never been played on. Cheap to do it again though, I imagine.

Refelting starts at $200. Then you’ll want to replace the bumpers at the same time and now you’re into it $400-$600. Try not to damage the felt.

Pool tables and Pianos are a PITA to move. It's why they are always for free or damn near. I would just wait to buy another one that will be easier to move.

I just put Simonis 860 on my table. It’s an 8 foot table and just the materials were about $300.

it’s cloth, not felt, btw. Technically it’s worsted wool.

Correct, but the moniker is ‘refelting’.
