I have relentlessly searched the forums to no avail. I have a Snugtop XV and recently purchased a small cargo net with the intent of mounting it to the interior roof of the cap. I got some 42" TRED recovery ramps that I am wanting to hold in the net ~15lbs.

I am thinking of cutting the carpet back and mounting command hooks (the ones that supposedly hold 5lbs each) in each corner? I am looking for ideas.

Sounds feasible but I wouldn't bother with command hooks. I have their XXXXXL heavy duty hooks and while the hook itself is substantially stronger, the adhesive still sucks. I replaced it with 3M automotive heavy duty foam tape which was a better option, but that 3M tape is expensive. I had some already so it wasn't a big deal, but IIRC I paid like $16 for just a few yards of it.

The cap has the "carpet". I was thinking even industrial velcro/combo with the hooks? I just want to make sure its sturdy so the cargo net/ recovery ramps don't come crashing down while off-roading. In my clicking around I see some people have rings mounted to the roof of the cap, but I don't know if they ordered it that way or did it themselves. I am just uneasy drilling into the roof.

Velcro might be a better option, if it holds well. I would think it depends on your kind of wheeling, if that 15 lbs is really going to be tossed around, a temporary attachment like tape or velcro probably isn't going to cut it. That is a decent amount of weight to be somewhat free-hanging.. any reason you can't do a solid mount of some kind? I think @DoorDing has (or may know who has) MaxTrax fastened to the OEM bed rails.

I'll check out his set up. I saw some people with them tied down to the bed rails. I am trying to keep what little available bed space I have free (short bed problems) I was thinking the weight shouldn't be too much of a deal, just devising how to execute it properly. The adhesive/velcro seems like a temporary rig. I just don't know how. @OZ-T has the mounted rings that I could use with carabiners for a solid mount. Sent him a PM but I am feeling out for other peoples opinions/advice.

Do you think the 3M heavy duty automotive tape would provide what I am looking for?

    I wouldn't think so.

I used the 3M XXXXXXL hook with the 3M heavy duty automotive foam tape to hang a small, chintzy kitchen angel thing on our kitchen wall that my fiance's grandma made for us and I have lightly textured walls. I smashed the foam tape as hard as I could and did so for several minutes, making sure I was getting as much surface area covered as possible because the Command Strip tape kept failing. It worked for about 3 weeks and then fell off the wall again, and this kitchen angel thing is less than 2 pounds.

If your cap interior was absolutely flat I would definitely suggest trying it, but if it's unfinished fiberglass then I don't see it holding whatsoever. My wall was relatively flat and very clean, I would think the fiberglass underneath your carpet is much less so.

Velcro sounds like it could work pretty well, and is inexpensive. I would definitely risk a $5 loss to experiment with that before I'd experiment with $20 worth of tape and plastic hooks.

I'll see if I can get some feedback on how other member have mounted hooks. If not velcro will be my option. Thanks for the feedback on the adhesives.

I just searched for yakima rack on cap and didn't find much. In Spring I am think about getting a prInsu roof rack, if nothing else I can keep the yakima tracks in mind as they will probably be necessary for the rack.

I would not recommend it. It will come thru your back window into your head if you were to have a wreck. Seen some funky things as an adjuster.

I would likely make my own net with some heavy duty 1-1.5" nylon webbing, similar to the Toyota bed net, and close the cab side end off. I'd think in an accident that wouldn't kill the driver to begin with, it'd be just fine to retain any kind of reasonable cargo carried within in a minor accident.

This is what I got. Appears to be perfect for what I am looking for. I am wanting the mount the net center line of the cap. And for $10.... seemed like the easy answer. The netting isn't elastic. so the description could be misleading if your looking for the actual netting to expand.

Thank you everyone for the help and tracking down the information I couldn't find with my searching

Finally got the right hardware in and got it all set up today...will attach links below for the stuff I used, all from Amazon.

Lifting eye nuts...fit PERFECTLY on the ends of the Yakima rack bolts coming through the roof of the shell. Some weren't long enough to fit without removing the stock nut and nut cap, but they're easy to remove and this ring nut will replace it no problem!
