I have a an undercover tonneau and was thinking about mounting a rack directly to it. My thoughts were using it to, at it's highest capacity, supporting a roof top tent. I know some people have used it to mount bike racks, but I'm wondering if it has the capacity to do the RTT. Undercover does not provide any load capactiy stats and simply states to use "common sense". Does this fall within that limit? Haha. Any opinions or actual experience is appreciated.

    Anyone have experience?

A tent with people in it seems awfully heavy compared to a bike.

Since you got a longbed... get yourself a soft topper this could be a better option

Thanks for the suggestion. The thing is, I don’t wanna lose my tonneau, otherwise I’d just go for of of the many bed rack options out there.

Yes, I am curious if anyone has mounted their tent to the cover itself. I have yet to receive my tent that I had ordered so I'm not exactly sure if its worth doing or just removing the cover and buying a rack. I may sell my cover and go with the soft top option.

Why not one of the racks that works with tonneau covers?

Ahh, yep. I see. Maybe you just need 2 support bars that go across underneath your cover to provide support for a rtt.

Honestly, I've been contemplating cutting out places in the cover itself and using a regular bed rack. My worry would be waterproofing the cover, but I don't think that would be too difficult to do.

Yah, I'm wondering if that'd be a possible solution. Let me know if you ever end up doing it!

I encountered a similar issue when attempting to find a RTT tent capable rack that would work with my Revolver X2 flush mount Tonneau. Ended up building my own rack and welding rails to my bed to accept the custom rack. I can still roll the X2 all the way up in necessary with the rack bolted on.

@bunsojr Bike racks and a bike weight like less than 40 pounds altogether. Not exactly comparable to a rooftop tent. With the model of tonneau @cchilders has, you can't open the tailgate without lifting the cover. That seems problematic if you have a rooftop tent on it and you're set up at a camp. I wouldn't try polishing a turd and just get the right cover and rack system for what you want to do. The tonneau may (very optimistically thinking) hold the weight of your rooftop tent but not with people in it. Just the force of bumps and turns are probably going to break your tonneau cover with a tent on it. My RTT is about 150 pounds and says it has a capacity of 600 pounds. I don't think that tonneau can support 750 pounds.

    My setup is below:

It's a KB Voodoo rack with their tonneau brackets. I used spray foam insulation and flex-seal type tape to weatherproof it since the brackets lifted how my aluminum sliding tonneau cover meets the bed rails. My tonneau was rated for 200 pounds of load evenly distributed.

No money, all went to truck...

Wow this is cool. Are there close ups of completed build? I have forever looked to a solution to bed racks (full height) to go with bakflip bed cover. This is a neat idea, I do not have welding abilities but at least is looks like there's a solution. I would like to see the completed build.
