I have a 01 Taco with the 3.4 and due to the last owners lack of maintenance, I'm doing everything that is major to the truck before anything else. Doing valve cover gaskets next weekend, etc. I am getting a feeling of the engine maybe misfiring. I'm not too sure but it causes the truck to shake a lot while stopped at a light. You can really feel it when your arm is on the passenger headrest. I was thinking maybe it would be the motor mounts as they're damn near 15 years old with 185k hard miles on it. I searched around but couldnt find a diagram or pic of where they are. Can someone inform me of this so I can check them?

I'm not sure about the 3.4 but if it's at all similar to my 2.7 then there are two of them in the engine compartment. One on the far right and one on the far left. They are accessible through the wheel well if you remove the splash guards.

Toyota says that there is a 3rd mount but what they call a rear motor mount would better be described as a transmission or transfer case mount. It's well behind the engine and connects the transfer case to a crossmember.

If you were to pull your skid plates and crawl under the truck with a flashlight you'll get a better view of the mounts that from above looking down.

He's a PreRunner so I doubt he'll see a t-Case mount, but I think the auto transmission has a mount underneath it that is on a cross member.

You're right. I did notice that he had a PreRunner but I figured that there would still have to be a mount down there somewhere. Just trying to be helpful.

No probs, for all I know I'm wrong too. I have a 4X4 manual, that's way different from his setup.

I think the layout of the mounts is pretty similar for most Toyota trucks. My 2004 4runner has tge 4.0 V6 and even though the mounts look a little different, they are in the same general place.
