Hi everyone, I'm looking into putting a scope on my Mosin Nagant thats not at the tip of the rifle lol. It seems like best way to go about this is bending the stock bolt or replacing it with a bent one. I purchased my Mosin for about $70 and cant find a service sub of $150 that will bend the bolt/install a bent bolt. I was wondering if anyone has done this or knows a cheap/ish way of accomplishing this. You can see how I would not want to spend 2x the money that I pad for the rifle to then spend another 2x on a scope. Also if this is not possible are there any rifle recommendations sub 1k (scope included) that I can use to get into the deer or smaller hunting game.

I’m curious, what’s the back story on this Mosin? Is it just a 91-30 that you bought years ago when they were by-the-crate garbage-rods? They are cool and becoming collectable. If it’s in good shape and matching numbers I would leave it alone and put the money into a modern bolt gun to shoot.
If you scope the mosin you will probably kill any collectable value it has and you will still end up with a mediocre shooting rifle that now has a home-mounted scope. And with ammo cost comparable to modern rifle calibers.

Love mine. Wish they hadn't put a ban on Russian ammo imports. Getting hard to find the ammo.

That's a nice M44. I have had very good luck with PPU x54R ammo. Obviously more expensive then old surplus but reasonable, shoots very well and reloadable.

Had a 91/30 also, but i sold it like an idiot. It was very nice, but the price they were offering me for it was like 5 times what i paid for it, many years ago. Before all the import bans and all.

I'm still kicking myself for not getting a mosin when they were $60 at a gun show. The only reason I didn't was literally all my friends had one so there were plenty around to shoot. Now I'm thinking about getting one again and a good deal is like $350! That's what my AK cost back in the day! hahaha

Hex receivers are less common/more collectable. I wouldn't molest that gun with a scope.

Mines long gone. Just down to the M44 now, but liked the shorter barrel and folding bayonet. I was just thread jacking the OP, lol. Cant not jump in on Mosin talk, lol. The are hella fun cannons. Wish the ammo was still cheap, cause they are fun.

Yea I think Ill keep it stock, I thought it would be cool to use it to hunt but Ill just pick up another rifle for hunting and let this one be.
I have 1 can of ammo left (I believe they are tracer rounds, so I cant really shoot them anywhere here in SoCal)
But most ranges have 7.62x54r ammo for about $40 per 20 shots =(

I don't think they are tracer, those are usually red tip. Look like surplus steel core. If you send me a pic of the base of the casing i can tell you more definitely.

I think you have one of the last hex receivers. I've seen pics of 1936 Tula round receivers too so it was probably a transition year.

I had an ex-sniper mosin that i wish i kept. But i sold it to a friend and he re-scoped it. I still can shoot it once in a while, but that's not the same.

Nope we cant order ammo online anymore unless it gets shipped to a dealer, and most sites I used to use dont shop to Cali at all (cheaperthendirt).
I believe its a criminal offense now here if you get ammo shipped directly to your house or purchase from another state and drive it here. We basically do a soft background check when buying ammo, its gotten nuts here and its only getting worse =(
