I am currently installing the morimoto D2S 5.0 Projectors in my 2012 Reflector.

I am noticing that when using the h4 alignment ring provided by the retrofit source, the projector looks to sit un-level in the housing. I know that the true way to level the projector beam is by mounting them into the vehicle and then making adjustments by rotating the projector.

But the problem I see with that, is that the h4 alignment ring is keeping me from being able to rotate the projector, at all! The Alignment ring is keeping it inline with the factory reflector h4 alignment notches.

Can anybody who has done a retrofit before shed some light on the situation?

A few mods here and there and counting....
Shave the notch on the alignment ring. The Tacomas uses an offset mount for the h4 bulb. Shave the notch and align the projector w the horizontal line of the bowl.

Unfortunately for us 12+ owners, we have to modify the adjustment rings and manually level it ourselves.

Off topic, MK3 in your username indicate MK3 Supra? If so, were you ever on SM?

Can’t wait to see the output. I want to upgrade from the d2s 2.0. What did you use to paint the reflectors? What shroud are you going to use?

Gotcha, beautiful car. Very clean and well done, that under-hood is clean, nicely done!

I’m a 7M guy myself, but I do love me some 2jz action.

Ended up finishing the install tonight! I’ll have to wire up the switchback halos tomorrow after work.

Much happier with my own built Headlights than the ones I purchased from Kustom54 Lighting. I was very unimpressed with the product they built :/

Sweet! Looks good! I just did these projectors on my '06 Tundra. Had the same issue. Projectors were about 10 degrees from level. So I shaved off the inside notch. I also had to grind the OD of my locking ring so it would fit inside the bore and tighten down on the alignment ring.

I’m doing my 2010 soon with the D2S also. Good to know this is different from the Mini H1 installation.

Is this applicable to all 2012+ retrofits? I will be retrofitting the Morimoto M-LED projectors into mine. If it is, can someone show me what notches need shaving down and let me know what you used to shave it? I want to be able to do the retrofit in one day without any unforseen hiccups.

Not sure if it is applicable to yours or not. If so, maybe this will help.

Thank you! This is perfect because I have a belt sander at home and can knock this stuff out easily. I'll probably use my Dremel first once the inner housing is out then hit the belt sander on it to flush it all out.

It appears that the issue is the H4 style locking clip assembly stuff, not so much the way the projector beam output will or will not sit perfectly level on the wall?
